Colin Herd has a great Monday segment on Fox where it's titled where Colin was right and where Colin was wrong.

I greatly enjoy that segment because it shows balance as no one is always right or always wrong.

Let's give it a try and I'll start off.

Where I was right

It was foolish to come close to paying 6-3 Isaiah Coleman his SHU asking price.

Where I was wrong

I was very confident in picking Creighton and Marquette 3rd and 4th in my preseason Big East ranking.

I disagree. Coleman averaged 15 as a soph. He’d be the best player on this team by a pretty decent margin. It’s been stated that Holloway didn’t use all of his NIL money, so $ shouldn’t be an issue. Holloway and SHU would trade Parker & Williams or Parker & Fisher today for Coleman. They make that trade 100x

You have to be kidding. I wouldn't make that trade today for any amount.

Where I was wrong: Mbaye would be our starting center.

Where I was right: He is now getting in games where we are leading by 20 at the end.

What don’t you understand?
He’d be the best player on this team for a wide margin.
I never saw Coleman as a selfish player last year trying to “get his”. He was the only BE player on the roster. Who else did you want shooting? Aligbe? Middleton? Wusu?

Your first part isn’t exactly correct but your 2nd about Aligbe and Wusu 😂 😂

I was right to be down on Providence, Marquette, and Georgetown.

I was wrong to be high on Creighton and DePaul, and low on SHU.

Who is better than him?
Our star pg who averages 10ppg?
You’re delusional if you don’t think Sha would trade Fisher/Parker or Williams/Parker for him. Sha was on record last year stating how bad he wanted IC to return

Coleman could not play "D" and was a poor 3 point shooter. He would not fit well on this team or the style of play. Heck he does not fit well were he is now. So let us move on already.

I was an advocate for Coleman (and his $1.5 mil price tag), and I think his skillset would be a great fit for this team, but he’s gotten in trouble and fallen out of favor at OSU. His efficiency numbers are down. He finished last season as a selfish chucker.

There are a lot of signs that he’s just a bag chaser and not a winning player. There’s still plenty of season left, but I’m pretty sure we are going to be taking an L for supporting Coleman.

Wrong on both accounts. Coleman was an excellent defender. He just chose not to. He was also an above average 3pt shooter. Unfortunately, most of his shots at SH were tightly contested. That being said, I think A.J. is better on both ends.

Seconded. They’re spending that on him to be a bench player, talk about budget lol.

Coleman is a talented and skilled player. See how it turns out.

A bit fixated on ppg, perhaps?
He was THE offensive option on a bad team. He wouldn’t be scoring as much on this team. Not going to criticize Sha for not paying him (in fact most believe he didn’t want to be here and the price was just for leverage. Moot point.

To the question:
Right: Sticking with Sha…he earned a long leash given his history and loyalty to the school. Calls for his firing were flat out wrong.

Wrong: Siding with the BE coaches and expecting a 10th place finish.

Coleman stopped playing D last year and focused only on his scoring. I screamed that a lot last season.

He stopped doing a lot of things. While I know playing for a crummy team is disappointing/devastating. But some guys still play their best and hardest.

Where I was wrong:

Coleman did need to go and I am thrilled with our new guards. I don't think (especially at the price point) I would trade ANY of our starter, nor Simpkins, for Coleman.

I also am OVERJOYED that Sha is finally showing he is able to coach offense, and I'm seeing some of the same type of plays run during the St. Peter's Elite8 run. That is huge to me. Honestly I like our offense this year a lot better than two years ago during our somewhat relatively successful season winning the NIT. I needed to be shown in order to believe and I am being shown. KEEP IT UP!!!

Where I was right: This team would be more competitive and show more heart with good chemistry
Where I was wrong: I expected an 8th or 9th place finish in the Big East and a .500 overall record

Lets all keep in mind that Coleman also came back to us last year when he could have left for more $ elsewhere. Based on last years results, he would have been nuts to return this year for less than he could get on the open market. Also, keep in mind that he also flew out to Hinkle to play in the NIT finals during his Freshman year because we needed him, even though he was nursing a pretty serious injury.

His asking price was $1.5M so no you can't make that trade because the money wouldn't come close to matching up. And IMO Holloway wouldn't even think of following your advice.

I don't miss Coleman at all. I think he would have disturbed the cohesiveness of this team. Too much of a for me gunner.

I was wrong , I thought Clark and Fisher would be the primary scorers.
I was wrong, thought AJSM was a rotation player, he's probably our best player.
I was right, Hines is good, but he's really good.
I was wrong, expected Creighton and Marquette to be good. Butler bad.

Id trade trey or fisher for isaiah. Whats the difference in price. We do desperatly need a quality backup pg. Trey has some skills but not at pg. Assuming isaiah bought in to shas defense, imagine starting budd, isaiah, Aj

To me, Coleman was a guy who was looking to his junior season payout by the time January came around. And I understand it.

While I can’t be completely certain as I’m not in the huddle or with the team, his on court body language certainly contributed to a very dysfunctional group of players. He looked extremely disinterested.

I can say that I did not see any of this coming before the season began. The whole damn thing to me is where I was wrong.

But in hindsight, when Dan posted the intra-team malfunction from last season and how that played a huge part, I wasn’t sure how much stock to put in that.

Damn what a difference it makes when players rely on each other, like each other, look for the open guy and play swarming help defense.

Where I was right - having seen Budd Clark ball against Sacred Heart and Fairfield here in CT, I knew he would be the answer at the point. Many said he was too small. My response - he plays bigger. He is proving me right.

Where I was wrong. Had no confidence in the collection of "guys" Sha brought in. This collection of "dawgs" is proving me dead wrong. Why I was an ad agency exective I was a "baller." As an evaluator of college hoops talent, I flat out suck.

I thought 12 to 13 wins was tops. Like my betting record over five decades - I took gas. Wanna win - call me and ask me abouit my bets and go the other way. I may start a service - I pick losers.

Right—Our half-court offense will be ineffective and we’ll have to score off our D.

Wrong—That strategy might work against the St. Peter’s of the world, but won’t translate to tougher competition.

Where i was right - Telling my fellow Pirates not to jump ship and wait to see how the new players look.

Where i was wrong - Thinking we would go 8-3 in the OOC at best.

But i do still caution to see how the first few Big East games before getting too excited.
