Few things here:
1. You’re comparing Florida and Tennessee pretty freely in this thread, but right now, Florida is a lot closer to Mississippi State than it is to Tennessee. Playing Florida close isn’t really any sort of accomplishment right now. Tennessee, maybe, but Florida, no. We might as well lose to Kentucky or Arkansas, but “keep it close”. It’s the same level of accomplishment as losing close to Florida.
2. I don’t think anybody is seriously saying Lebby should be fired this week (or next week), even with comments like “leave him on the tarmac”. I do, however, think he lost a LOT of the goodwill & “benefit of the doubt” he got from the ASU win and his decision making ability, especially in crunch time, is rightfully being questioned. It’s not so much that people want him fired, but a lot of people are suddenly ok if he was no longer the coach. But, hey, if you think he’s such a promising young offensive mind, Florida should really take a long look at him.
3. If he goes 0-16 in the SEC and 1-17 against the Power 4 (and 1-1 against the MAC) over the course of 2 years, then his seat needs to be white hot. I don’t know how that’s debatable.
4. Whatever the positives, he made some really bad calls in crunch time against both Tennessee and Florida. If you look at our final drive in regulation, we had all 3 timeouts and a little less than 2 minutes. We should have had the ball on the ground milking the clock and either forcing Tennessee to use their timeouts or making sure if we didn’t get in FG range, they had no time left. Instead, we throw the ball (twice incomplete) and take a grand total of 32 seconds off the clock without Tennessee using a single timeout. We were lucky Tennessee had their own clock management problems and an offensive holding penalty. Also, no matter what BFW or anybody else says, passing the ball (especially in the middle of the field) on that final play against Florida was boneheaded given the strengths and weaknesses of our offensive personnel.
5. You’re relying a lot on recruiting class rankings, but it’s 2025. With the transfer portal, that sнit is played out.
