I think he will see some meaningful minutes, due to our lack of depth at the guard spots. After a year in Cal's system he could become a contributor. Hawkins cant really backup 3 guards by himself. I know Willis and Gabriel will play some 3 but still.

I think the answer to that ? is yes, He has the athletic and shooting ability and knows this his last year to get things done.I know you can't go by measurables from the Combine but the kid has some serious athleticism. Take a look at his numbers.
i have no clue why he didnt play last year. should have at least gotten the minutes mathews got.
I know we dont like to redshirt guys, but I would love to see him redshirt. He's not gonna play this year ahead of Monk, Fox, and Briscoe and we would really need him next year. Makes perfect sense if you ask me.

He didn't play last year due to D and that is as clear as day to anyone who watched him . If he can D it up better he will play . If not Hawkins will be the bench guard as we don't need 5 of them as we have too many studs at the 3-5 spots.
#5 guard. If Dom stays healthy I don't expect him to play much. Wouldn't be the 1st time I was wrong.
Isn't the guard situation the same this year as last year and he still didn't play much. He'll even when Hawk got hurt he didn't play much, with that said, it all depends on how much of a drop there is when Monk and Fox come out. If the drop is big then you just can't play Mulder. That's the key to getting time, when you come in can our team sustain its momentum or get worse
Cal is very anal when it comes to playing guys that are not four star or five star if he has a roster of those type guys, even if depth might be a bit shallow. Mulder was shooting it good last night and I would like to see him step up and play well so that Cal has to play him. helps to have guys not wearing down come tournament time.
Even if Fox, Briscoe, and Monk play the 104 minutes that Ulis/Murray/Briscoe combined for last year (which is about 35 minutes/game each), there's still about 15-20 minutes a game to go to Mulder/Hawkins. Matthews played over 10 minutes/game last year, and now he is gone. Mulder can logically compete for those minutes without really taking anything away from Ulis/Murray/Briscoe.
Yeah it's possible. Also posssible that Briscoe, Monk, Fox, Hawkins, Wenyen, Willis get all the minutes available at the 1,2,3 especially since Cal said he's going with a 8 man rotation
good call. skj has more upside. and honestly...didnt see much out of humphries last night. supposed to be a good shooter but never seems to make any.
idk....i mean he can play below average defense and i'm fine getting him minutes. we arent talking 20 per here. 5 minutes a half. if he can make a 3 or two...thats all we need. if he can be that efficient thats perfect.
Another threat from outside would really give this team a way to bust those zones that we are going to see. I hope he goes out his senior year playing well and Hawkins too.
No, but it always curious to me why some on here like to jump on to a normal thread just to interject negativity about a player, does it make you feel good?
Hard to say really because we saw so little of him last year. I really don't know what he's capable of. He did seem to be a liability on defense. But he's got a year in the system and he's supposed to be able to stroke it from long.

So I can't express my opinion because you think it's negative? When's the last time our 11th man got serious run? 1996? Ravi Moss? I'm serious. The question at hand is will he play and specifically will he get meaningful minutes. I don't think he will and how I feel about it has got nothing to do with anything.
You make it sound like I'm mistaken about your post. Do you really think that your statements wasn't negative? Plus it seems that the general media's opinion is that our perimeter game will be our biggest weakness which is why the conversation was about who might help there if the freshmen don't fill the bill.

If you're looking at players, he's probably the last player before the walk ons but if he listed as a shooter he's probably around the fifth shooter on the team. If the media is right about our perimeter weaknesses, he might get a shot as long as that could be. But he will have to be a great shooter and defender in practice for Cal to even think of putting him in a game.
I said this in another thread, but I'm interested in how the minutes will shake out between Humphries and SKJ as the year plays out.
Wouldn't surprise me to see games where one gets 20 minutes and the other gets 2, and vice versa.
But will one or the other seize the lion's share of the minutes by March?
I think we're all sold on Fox, Monk, Briscoe, and Bam getting major minutes.
Most would agree that Willis is next up, with Gabriel fighting him for time.
Hawkins is a reliable senior who can give you 10+ minutes any night without hurting you.
But I really don't know what to think about Hump and SKJ. I think they both play, and get plenty of chances.
But would it shock you if come tournament time, we are down to playing 7 guys most of the minutes? Or even 6, with Hawkins getting spot duty?
I expect Gabriel to get Matthews' minutes, not Mulder.
I expect Cal will maybe play 10 guys in November with Mulder as 10th man playing 5-6 minutes per game.
I think by December the rotation will be down to no more than 9, and by SEC play it will be down to 8.
Then he will tighten it up to mainly 7 guys by the postseason.
In March, Fox, Monk, Briscoe, and Adebayo will play every minute they can while Willis, Humphries, and Gabriel split the rest of the minutes, playing based on the situation (Willis when we need shooting, Humphries when we need size, Gabriel when we need defense).
I'm not sold on Humphries yet. I won't be shocked if SKJ passes him up (or not...won't be shocked either way).
I also expect Hawkins to get minutes all year long. I'll never forget that he was contributing as a freshman, versus UL (15 minutes) in the Sweet Sixteen. Guy is battle tested.
Ehh I doubt that. Mulder is 5" taller and 3 years older. Brad may end up being a contributor in his time here but I don't expect him to see much meaningful clock this year.

But I do agree, I think Brad will get more PT during his time year than our usual victory cigars do.

Were the obvious top 6 - based solely on scanning this board. Then I figured Hawkins to be the 7th man, as the only backcourt sub to get consistent minutes. Then I was trying to figure out who'd get the coveted 8th spot - and who'd be 9th, which figures to get a good bit less clock than 8th. And I assumed that would come down to Gabriel vs SKJ.

I don't think any of us said we expected to see Willis playing 20+mpg let alone starting part of the season before the season started last year.
I know that I didn't even have him as a regular rotation guy going into the season.
Who knows, this year it could be Hawkins or Mulder or even Wynyard that surprises everyone by working his way into major minutes.
We just won't know for sure until the season starts.

If UK starts Fox, Briscoe, and Monk, I think 2 of the most important players on the team become Hawkins and Mulder. If you're starting 3 guards, you've got to have guys waiting in the wings to give them a breather and in the event of foul trouble.
From what I've read and even saw in that combine practice of Mulder, he's much improved over last season. His shooting is better. His defense is better. His athleticism has never really been in question.
Disclaimer: Calipari has always been known to play his best guys the most minutes, so it is possible, if a guy like Gabriel is playing so well that he must get on the floor, Calipari may switch to a bigger line-up when guards need breathers. He could put Willis at the 3 and then play Gabriel at the 4 or 5.
Edit: disclaimer #2, Mulder's defense. Off the bench, Calipari tends to favor the more defensive oriented player. If Mulder's defense is good enough, he'll get minutes.
