We use Bifen a lot. You're correct in that it is a safe and quick method for curtailing fire ants. However, when it's hot and you have extreme below-ground mounds there is much more that goes into it besides simply covering the field in Bifen. It would take lots of manual labor to identify and properly disturb each mound (and test for unseen mounds) in order to generate substantial fire ant contact, which can damage the field. We prefer to be minimally invasive to playing fields, such as the immaculate field at CHS. Props to their team, fewer crews do a better job than theirs.
The CHS players have a known immunity called toughness, but the WRH players skin have historically been much thinner, as evidenced by comments their coach made in order to posture to either feel super good about the win, or make excuses when they lose. Independent research comments from me only though. No dog in this fight (no pun intended)
It is pretty funny people were actually calling the school asking if the game was canceled due to fire ants lol cmon now people
My dad called me about the fire ants because he knows I travel a long way to make it to the games on time. I hope i can get there at halftime if the game starts a little later. I was hoping all this fire ant situation would cause a delay for kickoff
I would never let that happen. Delayed, possibly, in order to keep everyone safe, but not cancelled. Glad we could get the job done
Fire ants may not be an issue, but I heard that b/c the cicadas are so loud that each player's helmet will be mic'd up so they can hear signals. And b/c the PA system will be hard to hear as well, the local radio station will be issuing NASCAR-style headsets at the gate so you can listen to the radio feed.
There's another bulldog vs horse game tonight but that game affects 2 classes instead of 1
