Is Aragona an immediate starter or does he redshirt?
I'm gonna soak this weekend all in some more, but I am interested in the projected depth chart going into 2019-20. Lipari/Firestone battling for 141 will be interesting and I'm interested to see what Janzer does at 184. 165 will be wide open...maybe we target a transfer there so Kanniard can RS?
I would like to see Kanniard Redshirt except he is setting the world on fire.He just got majored by NY state champ.Let's give him the year to develop getting accustomed to the college grind. He is another good talent that can develop nicely.
Anthony Ashnault red shirted as a freshman, if the staff thinks Aragona will benefit from a RS year, and Ashanult was a 4x State Champ probably higher ranked coming out of HS than Aragona, then don't be surprised. . In watching Aragona wrestle in the Pitt Classic he faced an unranked kid from Pa, and he did not overpower the kid, he won approx. 4-1.
In the NJ states I didn't think he was overpowering, winning the final 7-1, Semifinal 6-1, and Qtrs 6-4. He is a very quick, finesse wrestler. IMO, he may need a year to develop the strength needed to win consistently in the Big10.
It sure helped Ashnault a lot. I would be very surprised if Aragona was noticeably better than a much older Lipari or Firestone. But you never know. Also, I wonder what the prospects are for Malcolm Robinson?
I may be mistaken but wasn’t AA also injured his freshman year which is why he got his 6th year?Anthony Ashnault red shirted as a freshman, if the staff thinks Aragona will benefit from a RS year, and Ashanult was a 4x State Champ probably higher ranked coming out of HS than Aragona, then don't be surprised. . Ashnault was injured his first year during his redshirt he wrestled 2 opens early in the year and was out until NCO in March. He also missed last year with a injury. He missed all of last year and got a 6th year.He wrestled almost 20 matches unattached, so I doubt he was injured. He also came in first at the National Collegiate Open,.
PS- I think there is a good chance that Ashnault is going to be as good a recruiter for RU as he was a wrestler. The kid bleeds Scarlet !
Aragona will RS next year to start the year if he's having a good year and is the best guy they will pull his shirt. The staff isn't against wrestling a true freshman if he's the best guyAragona is great, but unless he is sitting on multiple age level world titles, a redshirt is probably the way to go. Build slowly. Don’t rush a guy into the lineup. This is our best recruit since ashnault. Let’s nurture him, not nudge him.

Most coaches will put the best team on the mat.If he's ready and winning you wrestle him.You can RS anytime plus injuries happen not all guys are healthy for 5 years.Him being the best guy in a given year isn’t the point IMO. It’s whats best for his career.
I would not assume Metzler is out of the picture yet at 125. $$$$Robinson will probably go down to 125 if he can make it.I think he would be better suitable there competing for the spot with Aguilar or if Suriano does somehow qualifies taking an Olympic redshirt then 133 is open for competition for either Robinson or Firestone.

All well and good but if he was not granted a medical RS for that year he would not have received a sixth year.2013-14 (As a freshman): Redshirt season ... went 15-3 wrestling unattached at 141 pounds ... finished in first place at the National Collegiate Open, going 5-0 to claim top honors (March 2) ... went 3-2 at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open (Nov. 10) ... finished in third place with a 7-1 clip at the Clarion Open (Nov. 3).

Seems Ashnault was healthy to wrestling in November and still healthy to wrestle in March.
Stupid question from someone that knows nothing about wrestling. Do heavyweights have a max weight? What is a wrestlers walking around weight as compared to that which they would normally wrestle at?

No more Tab Thackers or Chris Taylors! No such thing as a stupid question.
Upper limit for heavy weight is 285.
A wrestlers walk around weight varies by wrestler. Last year, at 157, Micah was apparently walking around at 153 or so. On average, I would say a guys summer weight is about a weight class up. In season they probably walk around within 5-7 lbs of their wrestling weight. Depends on the wrestler and weight class. Spencer lee I think walks around at 128 (I heard somewhere), whereas Vincenzo Joseph I hear is about 190 in the summer and walks around in season around 172 (again, heard it somewhere. Don’t remember where).
The weight cutting rules are very clear and prevent too much weight loss. No more rubber suits and suanas.
