It’s cherry picking to just use Biden’s last two years. He inherited a market that climbed from 2500 to 3800+ in the 3 quarters leading up to his inauguration. The market was then basically flat for two entire years. It was a horrible stretch of returns.

S&P is up from ~5800 to 7500 since Jan 2025, or about 29%.

Still cherry picking. You are ignoring his first 2 years, which were basically flat. And you can’t blame Trump for that. The market ripped back up in the 3 quarters leading up to Biden’s inauguration. In fact, Biden was in office for a full year prior to 2022, which saw the worst S&P returns since the 2008 financial crisis.

As I was saying yesterday, if Oil resolves itself to $70-$75 a barrel or lower, this market is primed at the pump and will take off like a Starship rocket. Earnings are looking like they are coming in H.O.T.

@RagnarLothbrok err shortcok is not going to like this.

" Biden was in office for a full year prior to 2022, which saw the worst S&P returns since the 2008 financial crisis."

Maybe I misinterpreted this. I read it as you pointing out that Biden was in office a year prior to 2022, which (that year) saw the worst S&P returns yada yada.

Guessing you meant 2022 saw the worst returns. 2021 had great returns, along with 2023 and 2024.

Yep, correct. He was in seat for a full year prior to 2022. And then 2022 had the worst returns (-18%) since the 2008 financial crisis. That contributed to essentially a flat market for Biden's first 2 years, despite the market being on the upswing when he took office. We can't ignore that and just give him credit for his final 2 years like you and @dpic73 seem to be trying to do.

Nobody ignores it. We just disagree on the reasons that it happened.

I believe that 2022 would have experienced similar results if Trump had been in office. MAGAs think otherwise.

MAGAs ignore the post 2022 recovery and also seem to ignore that things were better in 2024 than they are now. Shouldn't you all expect to see improvement from Biden's last two years through now? i.e. cheaper gas, lower inflation, cheaper groceries, better market growth etc.....

I mean sure, when your data points are limited to:

  • June 2022 (Biden - peak inflation rate, gas prices)
  • Today (Trump)

Hey look, things got better!!

Well, I'm not MAGA. I disagree with Trump on a lot of things and think he's made unnecessary missteps that have hurt the economy. I also think that Biden injected unnecessary capital into the market in 2021 that helped fuel inflation, which contributed materially to the 2022 market decline. I believe both are bad presidents.

He knows he can end Iran easily. However, 1) it won't be popular with Iranians or Americans 2) It will tank the economy and markets.

Trump is kind of trapped and hence why he is "desperate" for a deal. There is no public appetite for the war in the US. A ground invasion or other bad press would tank the economy, and we all know how sensitive he is to the economy.

But we already know that Trump uses his Truth Social account as a bully pulpit. He definitely uses it for propaganda too.

I assume because what you said was funny.

For one "soaring" is not reality. You work for an investment firm and know the market is currently wobbly.

Second, since you work for an investment firm, you know 401ks are not portable, right?
Say dpic works for FedEx, he is not able to just "change investment firms" because the firm he is forced to use is dictated by FedEx, not him.

I am not sure why I am telling you things you clearly know, because, again, you work for an investment firm. And I believe you.
Stop yelling at the janitor.

Then why do you retards keep pushing for higher taxes (from those of us that already pay the most) to support ever expanding welfare programs for lazy grifters?

Why do you contards keep voting for the side that delivers inferior economic results? Measurably/consistently.

All time highs you say? Wow! So very rare, only your daddy Trump can do it!

Well, let me check for years with all time highs in the stock market since 1980 just be sure. I know I know.... why check in with objective reality when we have Trump Truths but bear with me here.

The metric to actually brag about (and the one that actually affects 401ks etc...) would be percent growth.

This is what the S&P500 would look like had we sustained the 2023-2024 market growth vs the actual growth:

Comparatively speaking, a POTUS has the ability to do more harm than good when it comes to influencing the markets. Though it's impossible to know what might have happened, we can see what does happen based on specific market reactions to events. Tariffs and the Trump war on Iran are examples.

If we truly want prosperity we need to shrink the federal government, starting with drastic cuts to the defense budget, and then welfare transfer payments to states. Welfare should be a state function.

Republicans in Congress have lost the right to talk about fiscal responsibility. They have had 2 chances under Trump to cut annual spending, and have actually increased it, especially military spending. Just think what kind of economy we could have.

You just go around and like all the doomer posts and laugh at my posts saying the economy isn't that bad and is primed at the pump. You can't deny it.

So I wasn't talking about the economy collapsing? It takes a lot to "collapse" the US economy. I don't believe that will happen under Trump's watch.

I regularly point out that things haven't improved since Trump took over. Inflation is up, prices are up, new wars, lower market growth etc...

Things aren't horrible right now but trending in the wrong direction for the supposed savior of America and the MAGAs that gleefully/smugly voted him in.

I laugh at the TDS afflicted people who think that things are going great and getting better. That's delusional and I find it amusing. I fully admit to doing that. No denial. :)

Inflation is up from where? Not up from the biden admin that's for sure.

If you want low inflation, you should thank Trump.

I am putting it in writing right now, you won't even broach the topic of inflation in the weeks leading up to mid-terms.

The economy is trending in the right direction and will explode as long as oil stays below the $75 mark long term.
