I'd like to beat Maryland and win the bowl game. Right now we've elevated ourselves past what most were expecting of us, but I'm greedy and would LOVE to finish 8-5.

We R in a bowl, nuff said! Hope we stay injury free and continue to improve. Worried about the off-season with players possibly being poached....

I think the team has had a successful year all things considered

I think the team could have won 2 more and under performed relative to changed expectations as the season progressed. All but the qb positions showed marked improvement overall

coaching is still questionable

Coaching is always questionable to you. Mainly because you have no idea how hard it is.

Coaching was good enough to qualify fo a second bowl appearance in the HC's 4 years back on the job.
Want a playoff team ( we all do) you have to be willing to pay top dollar for a HC and invest a bunch in the program while the boosters shell out NIL payments to get the talent .
RU's HC won't dazzle anyone with sideline brilliance when it comes to the offense , but will give the fanbase a program that will make minor bowl games constantly and then have the fans want more from him but refuse to pay the price to bring in better.

For this year and with the players that we have, getting the a bowl game was the mark of a successful season. For next year and the year after that I hope is more around 8 Ws.

The season is successful.. but to what degree is it successful?

This last game hurt the level of success quite a bit.

The remaining games have a chance to affect teh feelings of success as well.

But the final arbiter of the level of success will be the bowl game.

Win that and that can cure a lot of ills.

We were at 6-2. If we end up 6-7 it's a disaster finish. Back to the laughing stock of the league. And plenty of the Schiano's haters crap until next season.
It’s not a disaster . We are a program that has been in the shi$ter for years ! 6-6 is good for this program. You know this . You are not wrong for wanting more and having a program we can be proud of, but we aren’t there yet.

1. Improvement of on field play
2. A continuation of a positive culture (including academics) in and around the program.
3. The program is a positive contributor to the Rutgers and NJ community.
4. Our Alumni support the program.

Being able to move the chains, and throw and catch the ball, and play with pace, and attack, on offense.
This. Having an offense with an offensive mindset. Having a 3rd and 8 and knowing you have a chance of picking it up. Being down 10 and knowing it's not a death sentence.
At the end of the day a bowl game is a successful season I would have signed up for in August, but as someone else mentioned, starting 6-2 and losing 4 straight would leave a sour taste, leaving more on the table.

Losing 5 in a row is a disaster to any program. For Rutgers it doesn't show in improvement just another losing season. The bar isn't set just at making a bowl. The bar is set at winning.

I agree it's a bit of a disaster, but it doesn't take us to laughing stock level. Chris Ash achieved that multiple times, so we know exactly how bad that was. However, you are correct in that the haters will have an absolute field day with this.

I think we need a winning season for this year to be remembered as successful. Starting 6-2 and then dropping 5 straight, including a bowl game in our own backyard, would have to be viewed as a major disappointment even if the win total is higher than previous years.

Now let's step back and keep in mind that this team still has a big opportunity to change the narrative. Hopefully the coaching staff is harping on this to the players. Beat Maryland and then win the Pinstripe Bowl, and it's an 8-5 season that would undeniably mark a big step forward. It would also give Coach Schiano a great recruiting pitch for the football "renaissance" happening at Rutgers.

7-6 would be fairly solid given recent Rutgers history, but I'm not seeing how 6-7 leaves us with anything other than headshakes and dreams of what could have been. Hopefully this thing ends on a positive note.

To me it's a successful season because it's a huge improvement over last season. But I suspect the following seasons won't be very significantly better.

It's already a successful season. Rutgers improved the offensive line, rushed effectively and was dominant on defense. They were competitive every single week except one when the inflexible strategy and passing game weaknesses came into clearer focus. Regardless, this season was great for fans and will be even better if they defeat Maryland.

Next season, the passing game, especially the qb position, needs to make a jump. If it is the end of the season and the team still can't pass, I'd consider that a failure (that would be reflected in final record presumably) . Without that ability, I think the ceiling isn't far from where the team is now.

Love the defense. Absolutely love Kyle. GW improved as a game manager but can't hit a barn throwing the ball. I don't want to wait until next season. Put Simon or Sheppard in a series or two every game to end the season.

Many fans are not seeing this- I was not high on this season and had doubts about 2.0 and said it was a show me year. Not with W&L(though, nice) but my eyes needed to believe we can make that jump.

This season went past my hopes and expectations. Anyone that says different is full of (well, you know what)

Our defense is elite. We need some more depth. It would kind of be nice to see a guy like Lewis not have to be a 3 down player. The DB room is crazy good. Melton has had a very underrated season and when I see some fans say he has been subpar- WTF football do they watch? We have him on an island almost all the time. I think he may be the most phantom PI flagged DB in CFB too. But he has been shutdown on almost everyone he has faced. The other guys- we have at least 2 that will have a legit shot to make the NFL and there may be more when they get more playing time.
On offense- if anyone does not see the difference at OL- just sit down- and PUNCH yourself very hard in the damn face. Break a few fingers while doing so.
QB- yeah- he is over throwing and he is ummmmm over throwing. Maybe he is the answer and maybe one of the other guys are- but until we have a legit 1 & 2 WR and a TE...we will never know.
For the most part- he is still better and smarter then he was last year. So, if we improved him- maybe if there really is someone more talented, they will be coached off the charts.
For the most part- our team does not have nearly the stars 90% of the B1G has. But, up to now, they have played mult times better then we saw if recent previous years and you can see the momentum forward.

Agree with all qualitative objectives above, but there needs to be a quantitative objective. For me at the beginning of the season, 6 wins was ace. Now I’m bumping up to 7, be it regular season or bowl. Miss this objective and it wouldn’t be a disaster, but it still clouds the improvement narrative.

Inaccuracy is hard to fix, especially if it is in his head. Ask Chuck Knoblauch.

Successful season!
Made a big step, exceeded expectations of most..
But still more steps to go.
I actually predicted 7-5 (optimistic, but so far every game right)
If we go 6-6 & to Pinstripe a Bowl win becomes more important, then playing at 7-5 in Vegas or Nashville..

This. At 6-6 a Pinstripe win becomes very, very important as far as perception of the season goes. At 7-5 and playing a PAC 10/SEC team the bowl destination is the prize and the win would be gravy.
