Florida receiver Eugene “Tre” Wilson III announced plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on Wednesday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Wilson made the announcement in an Instagram post on Christmas Eve.

“I am forever grateful to God for granting me the strength and perseverance to pursue my dreams. From a young age, I aspired to attent the University of Florida, and achieving that goal has been an unforgettable experience,” Wilson’s IG post read. “I would like to express my sincere appreciation for Coach Billy Napier for recruiting me and providing the opportunity to be part of such an outstanding program — one that allowed me to compete at the highest level and play in front of thousands of passionate Florida fans in The Swamp.

“Wearing orange and blue for the past three years has been an honor. The experiences and memories in Gainesville have truly been remarkable. To my teammates, thank you for your dedication and showing me real brotherhood. To my family, I am deeply thankful for your unwavering support and guidance through every challenge and decision. After much prayer and consideration, I will be entering the transfer portal.”

As a redshirt sophomore this past season, Wilson will have two more years of collegiate eligibility remaining wherever he lands. Wilson had 27 receptions for 239 yards and three touchdowns in eight games, including five starts, in 2025. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound Wilson finishes his three-year career in Gainesville with 107 career receptions for 1,043 yards and 10 total touchdowns in 22 games between 2023-25.

Eugene Wilson suffers season-ending ankle injury for second consecutive year

Wilson’s Florida career has been littered by injuries, including undergoing season-ending ankle surgery each of the past two seasons. Wilson suffered this year’s ankle injury during a career game against Georgia on Nov. 1 and missed the Gators’ final four games. Against the Bulldogs, Wilson had nine catches for 121 yards and a 40-yard touchdown prior to his ankle injury.

After the Georgia game, Florida interim head coach Billy Gonzales praised Wilson for fighting through the pain and giving the Gators an opportunity to win the contest down the stretch.

“He’s going to be rewarded based on how hard you work,” Gonzales said Nov. 1. “Couple weeks ago he wasn’t as active, as far as being able to get the ball, but he busted his butt in the blocking game.

“Obviously with a couple playmakers down, we had Aidan down, VB down, and Dallas was down here in the middle of the game. He stepped up. I’m looking at some of the numbers. He had nine catches for 121 yards. He did a great job. He’s got big play making ability.”
