Shea Dixon of On3 | Rivals’ The Bengal Tiger was first to report on LSU defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell leaving the program. On Wednesday, head coach Brian Kelly spoke on the matter for the first time. He confirmed Mitchell is no longer with the Tigers, citing a failure to meet “workplace standards.”

“Look, there are standards,” Kelly said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “I can confirm he is no longer on the roster but we have standards that need to be met. And those standards were not met. Like any business or organization, you have workplace standards. So, those standards were not met. That’s all I’m going to talk about relative to Sydir because he’s no longer with us.”

Mitchell played high school football at Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 226 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Steve Sarkisian initially signed Mitchell out of high school, bringing him to Austin to play for the Texas Longhorns. Mitchell planned to develop under defensive line coach Bo Davis. However, Davis shortly left for Baton Rouge, which was a reason why Mitchell initially entered the NCAA transfer portal. But Davis is no longer with LSU, instead going to the NFL to coach for the New Orleans Saints.

Getting no playing time for the Tigers, Mitchell appeared in seven games during his time at Texas. Seven total tackles were recorded, 0.5 of which were for a loss. Mitchell is widely viewed as somebody with a ton of potential, hopefully being able to tap into it at his next stop.

Brian Kelly provides injury update on Braelin Moore head of Florida game

LSU is nursing some key injuries ahead of a pivotal SEC matchup against Florida on Saturday. And the status of offensive lineman Braelin Moore looms large.

Moore suffered an ankle injury in a game against Louisiana Tech last week, exiting the contest and failing to reappear. The Tigers, of course, were being cautious with him.

But it appears that Braelin Moore might be in good enough shape to suit up against Florida this weekend. Coach Brian Kelly provided an update on the SEC teleconference call on Wednesday morning.

“I think we have him listed as probable,” Kelly said. “If not, I’ll double check, maybe he’s questionable. But he did practice yesterday and we expect him to practice today.”
