Brian Kelly reacts to being trucked on sideline during LSU vs. Florida

LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly was happy to get a win over Florida on Saturday night. He was also lucky to get away without an injury, though. At one point during the game, Kelly got trucked by a pair of players tangled up and crashing into the sidelines, forcing him to take a hard fall.
With some time to reflect, Kelly can joke about the play. He had been trying to get a timeout because the running back, Caden Durham, didn’t get out of bounds. So, while distracted and trying to get the referee’s attention, he lost track of players crashing into the sidelines.
“First time in 35 years,” Brian Kelly said. “I got my butt kicked, and I know a lot of people were happy with that, but I’m tellin’ ya — it’s kind of an awkward situation because I was running down the sideline to call a timeout because, as you know, we ran the ball. Caden [Durham] bounced outside, and he didn’t get out of bounds. So, the clock was running. So, I just was running to get to the official, and Weston Davis and one of their linebackers were locked up.”
“I never saw ’em, and I ended up in the first row. Nobody wanted to pick me up, either,” Kelly said. “Which I thought was pretty crazy. But it got me pretty good. I don’t want to be flippant and say that I was in concussion protocol because that’s a serious thing, but I probably could’ve been…. Yeah, I think I’m gonna stick with that story. I bounced right back up.”
For Brian Kelly, this wasn’t the first time this season he’s lost track of his location on the sidelines. It’s just the first time he ended up getting trucked by players coming off the field. In Week 1, against Clemson, he would be trucked by a referee.

In that instance, Clemson was throwing downfield and Kelly had been standing in the white. He got caught watching the play, and the referee running up the sideline crashed into him as they both lost track of where they were in relation to one another. It’s a situation where a flag could have been thrown, as happened to CeeDee Lamb in a Dallas Cowboys preseason game this year, but wasn’t.
Brian Kelly reveals if Garrett Nussmeier’s torso issue has impacted playcalling for LSU
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been dealing with a torso injury. Despite that, it hasn’t changed the team’s play calling, according to Brian Kelly.
“No. Come Saturday, he’s good to go. We’ve limited him a little bit during the week because of some tightness that he’s had in his torso. It’s an upper-body injury that you want to be careful with how many reps he’s getting throwing the football. So, he’s overcoming that, but we cut him down substantially. I think he’s on the other side of that, but we had to be really careful with him the first few weeks,” Kelly said.
“No. But, you know, you’re not working on it as much in practice. So, you know, when you get your shots, you know, you want to be able to take them but we’re not doing it a lot in practice. We’re starting to pick up that pace. We started a little bit last week. We’ll continue to pick it up more this week.”
