LSU safety Ryan Yaites has entered the NCAA transfer portal after only one season with the Tigers, On3 has learned.

Yaites played in all 13 games last season as a true freshman. He finished the year with 16 tackles, while contributing on defense and special teams.

Ryan Yaites joined the LSU program as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He was tabbed as the No. 20 safety in the country.

The Texas native played 242 snaps last season, with 124 being on defense and the rest on special teams.

Prior to signing with LSU, he attended John H. Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.

During his senior season of high school, Yaites finished with 63 tackles, 11 pass breakups and a pair of interceptions. As a junior, he recorded 42 tackles and eight pass breakups.

Before coming to LSU, he was named an Under Armour All-American.

Out of high school, Ryan Yaites chose the Tigers over offers from some of the top programs in the country, including Texas and Notre Dame.

LSU CB Ryan Robinson Jr. also entered NCAA Transfer Portal

Ryan Yaites became the second LSU defensive back to enter the portal in a short span after Ryan Robinson Jr. did earlier this week.

Robinson joined LSU last offseason as a preferred walk-on. He was ranked by the On3 Consensus as a three-star prospect who landed double-digit offers across his high school career. That included verbal scholarships from teams like Nebraska, Oregon, Florida State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and others.

Robinson appeared in four games this past season, seeing action against Grambling and on special teams against Ole Miss, Missouri, and Georgia State.

Wherever he winds up in 2024, he’ll be looking for more opportunity to get onto the field next season.

LSU is coming off of a 10-3 season under head coach Brian Kelly, who just wrapped up his second year leading the Tigers program.

LSU reached the 10-win mark in each of Kelly’s first two seasons. They will now look to take a step forward and reach the College Football Playoff for the first time under Kelly in 2024.

The Tigers are losing a lot of talent, including Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, but there are still plenty of playmakers in Baton Rouge.
