Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram make prediction on LSU's 2025 win total of 8.5 games

Head coach Brian Kelly will embark on his fourth season at LSU in 2025, looking to lead the Tigers to the College Football Playoff for the first time since they won the National Championship in 2019.
On the June 10 edition of “The Triple Option” podcast featuring College Football Hall of Fame coach Urban Meyer, Heisman winner Mark Ingram and FOX Sports analyst Rob Stone, the trio made their prediction on LSU‘s win total of 8 1/2 games.
“You just don’t know,” Meyer said. “Their roster is going to be re-done and last year they were bad. Here’s the thing about Brian Kelly. He’s won everywhere. I’ve always respected him. He’s won at Grand Valley [State], I believe it was. Then at Central Michigan then Cincinnati and Notre Dame. But the question is, and I’ve been asked this by SEC fans, is their pressure? And oh my gosh, they are going to be up on him so hard. But my God, the guy’s coached at Notre Dame. He knows how to handle pressure. I’ve got a lot of respect for Brian Kelly.”
Ingram revealed his win-loss prediction while going over the schedule, projecting LSU at nine wins with losses at Clemson and Alabama. He did not reveal his prediction for LSU’s season finale at Oklahoma. “I was about to go under, but I just said nine wins,” Ingram laughed.
“You talk about the guys they have returning, but they lost two offensive linemen to the [NFL] Draft,” Ingram continued. “So you’ve got all these quarterbacks and all these skill positions but can you protect them and can you sure up the offensive line? It’s my big question mark. If you can’t run block and can’t pass block, you can’t do anything.”

LSU returns starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier this season, who expected to be one of the preseason favorites for the Heisman Trophy. Flanked by returning running back Caden Durham and linebacker Whit Weeks, the Tigers are looking to ascend back to the top of the SEC.
“I don’t think the players care,” Meyer responded when asked about the impact of losing your opening game. “What I would do is evaluate everything that you do over and over and over again from preseason. I’d change everything. I mean whatever practice we did I’d move it. Whatever time practiced I’d change it. Just because that’s the way my mind works. But the players? They don’t give a damn.”
LSU has lost its season opener in five consecutive seasons. 2020 opened with a 44-34 loss vs. Mississippi State, 2021 opened with a 38-27 loss at UCLA, 2022 and 2023 opened with losses vs. Florida State and 2024 opened with a loss vs. USC. The Tigers open the 2025 season on the road at Clemson on August 30, looking to break that five-year streak.
