Lane Kiffin says Jimbo Fisher never talked to him before Ole Miss-Texas A&M game

The situation between Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher continues to grow stranger. Kiffin already admitted that Saturday’s win against the Aggies was “personal” for him because of comments Fisher made this offseason, and he revealed another nugget about their strained relationship in his Monday press conference.

According to Kiffin, Fisher did not speak with him at all before the game began, marking a first for him in his several seasons as a coach.

“That was unusual,” Kiffin said. “I’ve coached for a few years and always shake hands with the head coach before the game like I was taught. But I stood out there for a while and he never came over, so I don’t really know what the issue is. The media guys were there doing the game, so they said, ‘Don’t feel bad.’ He blew them off the day before or something like that for their meeting. It is what it is. Can’t control other people.”

Kiffin’s beef with Fisher stems from comments the Aggies coach made this offseason referring to him as a “clown act.” Kiffin took every opportunity to troll A&M and Fisher leading up to the game, beginning in the SEC coaches teleconference where he accused the Aggies of “outbidding” the Rebels for defensive coordinator DJ Durkin.

Things only escalated after the win when Kiffin then made a call back to Fisher’s “clown act” comments in a postgame interview on SEC Network. Asked about his Halloween costume plans, the Rebels coach couldn’t resist the opportunity to take another shot.

“I don’t know, maybe Jimbo has a Joker outfit for me,” he said.

Lane Kiffin isn’t the first coach Jimbo Fisher has gotten into it with, as he also had a notable war of words with Alabama coach Nick Saban this offseason over NIL. However, while the spat with Saban appears to be over, Kiffin hasn’t let Fisher off the hook so easily.

After starting the season at No. 6 in the AP poll, Texas A&M is now just 3-5 and in danger of missing out on a bowl game. It’s clear the off-field drama isn’t helping Fisher either, and he’ll hope to put it out of his mind as the Aggies host Florida at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday.

As for the Rebels, they are 8-1, a fact they made sure A&M was aware of after Saturday, and have a bye this week before a game against Alabama in Week 11.
