Pop Isaacs injury update: Texas A&M guard takes major step in return to court

Texas A&M guard Pop Isaacs has been cleared for non-contact activities, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Isaacs transferred to Texas A&M this offseason from Creighton after initially committing to Houston in the portal.
Isaacs transferred to Creighton last offseason after spending two years at Texas Tech. He only played eight games for the Bluejays before suffering a season-ending hip injury in December. However, Isaacs was spectacular in his short time on the court.
He averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 41.0% from the field and 38.3% from beyond the arc. Isaacs wasn’t simply padding his stats against subpar competition, either.
In Isaacs’ final game of the season, he tallied 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists on 6-9 shooting from downtown against Kansas. He also had 25-point outings earlier in the season against Texas A&M and Nebraska.
In his two years at Texas Tech, Isaacs made 59 appearances and 58 starts. He averaged 15.9 points per game during his sophomore season but wasn’t nearly as efficient from range, knocking down just 29.3% of his 3-point attempts.
Despite his success with the Red Raiders, Isaacs moved on from the program shortly before a civil complaint alleging he assaulted a minor was dismissed last April. According to the lawsuit — originally obtained by ESPN in January 2024 — the parents of a 17-year-old girl from The Bahamas alleged a booster from Texas Tech bought alcohol for Isaacs and a teammate.
Their daughter was in the room with another girl, and she couldn’t give consent because she was intoxicated. The age of consent in The Bahamas is 16 years old

The parents alleged Isaacs took the girl to another room, where she was assaulted after she “attempted to fight him off,” according to the lawsuit. They were seeking $1 million in damages.
According to ESPN, Red Raiders head coach Grant McCasland was made aware of the allegations against Isaacs on Dec. 14, 2023, and he took it to Texas Tech’s athletic director and other university officials upon learning about it. The case was ultimately dismissed.
Isaacs played high school basketball at Coronado (Utah) High, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 91 overall recruit and No. 15 point guard in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Pop Isaacs is now one step closer to make a full return to the hardwood. He will help usher in the Bucky McMillan era at Texas A&M after Buzz Williams left the school for Maryland earlier this year.
