DeSoto (Texas) four-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II returned to Texas this weekend for the Longhorns’ game against No. 4 TCU. Cook II committed the Longhorns on June 29.

The 5-foot-11, 171-pound wideout is currently on his 10th visit to Austin. He was last on campus on Sept. 17. Before kickoff, he took a photo with high school teammate and fellow Texas commit, four-star running back Tre Wisner.

Cook II is the No. 44 overall prospect and No. 8 wide receiver in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in Texas.

Texas’ 2023 recruiting class is ranked No. 6 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the Big 12. Cook II is the fourth-highest-rated prospect in the group behind New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning, New Iberia (La.) Westgate five-star safety Derek Williams and Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater four-star running back Cedric Baxter Jr.

Cook II has an On3 NIL Valuation of $284K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Johntay Cook On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Johntay Cook:

“Smooth-moving receiver who is one of the better route-runners in the 2023 cycle. Shows the ability to tempo and toggle speeds within his routes. Can win at all levels of the field. Has long arms with a 6-foot-4 wing-span at 5-foot-11.5. The length helps create a large catch radius. Productive and efficient as a junior while facing top competition at one of the top talent-producing high school programs in Texas. Scored 18 touchdowns on just 38 receptions as a junior. Will need to continue improving on his reliability as a pass-catcher and eliminate concentration drops.”
