USC just added a veteran mind to its defensive coaching staff. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, the Trojans are adding Greg Brown to their staff in an analyst role. Here was Zenitz’ report, which he posted to Twitter on Friday morning:

“USC is expected to hire veteran defensive coach Greg Brown as an analyst, sources tell @On3sports. Brown has been a coordinator at places such as Colorado, an NFL assistant for 10 years and a college secondary coach for teams like Alabama and Auburn.”

Brown has been a defensive coach throughout his career and was a defensive coordinator for Colorado a few years back and most recently served as the DC for the Charlotte 49ers in 2022. Otherwise, Brown has mostly specialized as a defensive backs coach and has been a DBs or CBs coach in the NFL for the 49ers, Falcons and Chargers while also holding the position for a slew of high-major programs in the last 10 years.

Here was Zenitz’ own recap of Brown’s career for those interested:

“Brown has 42 years of coaching experience. He worked in the NFL from 1984-86 and 1994-2005. He then moved back to the college levin in 2006 with Colorado and became the team’s defensive coordinator in 2011 after a stop at Arizona before then then working at Alabama under Nick Saban (2013) along with stops at Louisville, Missouri, Auburn, Purdue and then Charlotte as the 49ers’ DC last season.”

USC adds a real coaching veteran to the defensive side of the ball.
