Clemson transfer Ruby Whitehorn commits to Tennessee

Clemson sophomore transfer Ruby Whitehorn announced her commitment to Tennessee, following a coaching change for the Tigers.
Whitehorn averaged 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals last season and has been a full-time starter for the Tigers since her arrival. The 5-foot, 11-inch guard also shot 46% from the field. She entered the transfer portal on March 18 and has since taken several visits.
Ruby Whitehorn chose the Vols over other high-profile schools including LSU, Baylor and Florida State. As a recruit, she was ranked No. 15 overall and the second-best guard in the class of 2022 by ESPN, making her Clemson’s highest-ranked recruit in history. The Tigers parted ways with coach Amanda Butler in March and former Chattanooga coach Shawn Poppie took over the position.

Ruby Whitehorn joins new Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell, who made a splash in her first season at the helm of Marshall and took the Volunteers job shortly after the season’s conclusion. This is Tennessee’s third portal addition, as Whitehorn joins Miami transfer Lazaria Spearman and Syracuse transfer Alyssa Latham.
All three additions were underclassmen this past season. Tennessee star Jewel Spear announced she’ll return to the Volunteers for her final season of eligibility after averaging 13.1 points and 4.4 rebounds last season.
