Patrick Mahomes loves what he is seeing early out of Texas Tech softball in a Women’s College World Series matchup against Oklahoma. The Red Raiders got out to a 2-0 lead on the defending national champion Sooners in the second inning Monday.

TTU got a big played when Demi Elder recorded an RBI triple down the left field line for the team’s first hit of the game. She later scored on a single from Bailey Lindemuth to give the Red Raiders their first pair of runs.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Texas Tech alumn reacted to the sequence on social media, cheering on his alma mater. He made the post to X, formerly Twitter, which you can view below.

If Texas Tech can hang on it win, it would advance to the WCWS final to face Texas. However, if OU manages to come back it would force a rematch later Monday evening with the winner of that game moving on.

The Red Raiders have yet to lose a game so far in the NCAA Tournament, but the Sooners are a major test. Oklahoma has won four consecutive national championships and is playing in its home state with plenty of fans in the crowd.

But Texas Tech had held OU scoreless still entering the top of the fifth inning, where the score remains 2-0. Time is running out for the Sooners as it appears Mahomes may have even more reason to celebrate soon.

Patrick Mahomes reacts to Texas Tech walk-off vs. Oklahoma, sending Red Raiders to WCWS championship series

Patrick Mahomes rode the roller coaster known as Texas Tech softball on Monday. One moment, the former Red Raiders star was down in the dumps because Oklahoma tied up the Women’s College World Series semifinal. One strike away, star Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady gave up a soul-crushing two-run home run to send the game to the bottom half of the seventh inning.

A few batters later, emotions were back at an all-time high for Mahomes. Texas Tech got the walk-off sac-fly to place itself in the WCWS championship game against Texas. A new step forward for the program, now just two wins away from a national title.

Mahomes once again took to social media for his reaction. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHH LETS GOOOO!!!!!!!!” was followed up by a GIF of a waving Texas Tech flag. You can check out both posts from somebody know knows a thing or two about coming up clutch in big moments.

Mahomes might have to get down to Oklahoma City himself to watch Texas Tech compete against an old Big 12 rival. The athletic department, as a whole, has just three team national championships in its history. Two have been in recent years in the track and field world, with an indoor title occurring in 2024.
