Women's basketball takeaways: 11/19 edition

It wound up being a very exciting day of hoops yesterday. Here are my takeaways from the action.
1. Oklahoma State struggles in first test, St. John’s pulls off a big win
Oklahoma State was on a tear – up until last night. In their first real test of the season, St. John’s managed the 74-67 upset at home.
“As long as I’ve done this, you know these are games you don’t want to give away when you have an opportunity, especially on your home court, against a ranked team…,” head coach Joe Tartamella told On3. “I thought it was a huge piece in validating the work our players have been putting in.”
The Big East is wide open outside of UConn this season – so this was a great boost of momentum for the Red Storm.
2. Kansas wins a big one
Kansas has one of the best freshmen classes in the country. Without their star rookie, Jaliya Davis, Kansas took down a talented Minnesota team at home.

S’Mya Nichols was crucial in the win, but Indiana transfer Lilly Meister really stood out in the post. The Jayhawks shot the ball well and utilized their depth in the key victory. The Big 12 is another league that remains fairly open outside of the elite few at the top.
If their freshmen continue developing, this Kansas squad should be able to return to the NCAA Tournament.
