When he was still in the NFL and was recovering from an injury one season, 2010ish, I ran into him at a deli here in town. We were in line next to each other. That dude was the nicest guy. Talked for a long time. Easy going. Smart. Proud to be from Bama. Football IQ was different than just being a player. Good guy.

There are a million stories like that. When I wrote about him or mentioned him on the radio he would call to thank me.

He will be college football first 20 million a year coach if DeBoer doesn't work out.
