TLDR; It seems to be Heupels system with more TE usage, more run game variations, more formations, and more play action. Probably mixing Matt Campbell more pro style concepts in he learned at Iowa State
Alex Golesh vs. Josh Heupel – Offensive Differences
Tight Ends:
• Heupel: Mostly blockers, occasional seams.
• Golesh: Heavy TE usage (12/13 personnel), H-back roles, leak routes, TE RPOs, more disguise.
Run Game:
• Heupel: Inside zone / split zone / GT counter base.
• Golesh: More gap scheme (counter/power/toss), more QB run game, pin-and-pull, TE arc/wrap blocks.
RPO Menu:
• Heupel: Simple access throws + post-snap reads.
• Golesh: More pre-snap packages, TE pop RPOs, slant/glance from condensed sets, more “gift throws.”
Formations:
• Heupel: Extreme wide splits.
• Golesh: Mixes condensed, bunch, stacks; better leverage + natural picks; strengthens perimeter run angles.
Motion:
• Heupel: Minimal motion to preserve tempo.
• Golesh: More jet/orbit motion, motion-to-stack, coverage-ID motion, motion-influenced RPOs.
Play-Action:
• Heupel: Uses it but not heavily layered.
• Golesh: More pistol/under-center looks, deep overs, Y-cross, floods, half-roll play-action.
Situational Management:
• Heupel: Tempo no matter what.
• Golesh: Will slow tempo in red zone/long yardage; adjusts personnel/formations based on defensive looks.
Overall:
• Heupel: Tempo + spacing + verticals + simplicity.
• Golesh: Same core system but more variety, more TE influence, more disguise, more motion, and a deeper run/play-action menu.

UTK fans will say similar things. Golesh seems more adaptable

SCarBarner08 said:Probably accurate, Golesh has coached under different systems in his career, but it seems like Heupel has run some variation of spread/air raid/veer and shoot his whole career going back to playing under Mike Leach.UTK fans will say similar things. Golesh seems more adaptable
