We all expected the USF guys, right? But it's the lack of big names, highly touted players setting visits that disappoints me. I thought, "Okay, I'll give it three days," and still nothing. Sure, there's a lot of time left, but a lot of money was freed up with who left, and I expected to see some more highly sought-after guys, especially at WR, TE, OL, and edge.
And please, spare me the "he is doing it his way, blah blah blah." Talent is talent, man, bottom line. And it needs to be coming in the doors, at least to visit. This is Auburn.
It can be sold. The majority of what I have seen come visit has been who this staff would have called on at USF in the portal. Gotta up your game here, man. I know he understands that, or I hope he does. I know all this big-time money isn't going to three-star portal players, so when are the proven plug-and-play starters going to get here? The only one I know is Byrum Brown as of now. Maybe Echols, maybe.
Hopefully, he is just knocking out USF guys and depth pieces right now, but all the top players are setting and taking visits, and Auburn isn't on the list.

No, I haven't seen anyone post about being disappointed. You must be the only one.

I’m happy with how it’s going so far. Everything is contingent on brown so hopefully he pops soon. Otherwise it’s going well.

Read the board OP, there are plenty of you in these threads complaining about everything. The last thing needed was one more of your ilk's posts, but here we are.

Not really, this is exactly what I thought would happen. Auburn, with 5 years of recent losing, isn't going to be the hot spot for anyone without ties to this staff. And "we have so much money to spend" should sound really familiar for Braves fans on here as we watch this staff try and scrape together value to compete.
I say this as someone who expects that Golesh will nonetheless get a lot of guys who can help us and we'll be better next year. I just don't think Auburn fans looking for signs of life are going to find much in the portal cycle, aside from Brown and perhaps another couple of celebrated pieces.

Well considering the portal opened less than 4 days ago, the answer is no I am not disappointed. I will know more about my thoughts on January 17th.

I think the disappointment some people are experiencing is because they don’t understand the situation Auburn is in. Auburn needs 30-40 players in this portal cycle. Auburn has $25-30m for the WHOLE roster, which is a good number. That is players that returned, the HS recruits they just signed, and the portal guys. How many high dollar ($1m +) big names did you expect to land? The math isn’t mathing if you expected a lot of them.

I think either this guy really knows how to identify talent or we’re fcked again. Probably the latter based off our luck the last decade

There's still 12 days left so not disappointed yet. A little concerned? Maybe. I'd thought we had some non-USF players and hopefully some OL or DL in the fold.
We have so many needs I wasn't really expecting much of a bang from top top guys. Not sure the strategy, could be waiting until big dollars are spend then sweep up some mid priced guys at high volumes that don't have homes?

No. Why should I be worried?

I don't think we're going to land big names. We haven't won in 6 years, and apparently we're trying to be fiscally disciplined or whatever.
That's why a lot of us were worried about the talent we lost. We didn't think they could be replaced, but we were shouted down.
Next year could be really rough.
On the plus side though, it seems like Golesh and staff are focused on O line. Hopefully they get some depth there. If we get BB/retain Deuce, plus the new additions for WR and TE, we should be good offensively.
Defense still feels like it needs everything but linebacker, and maybe safeties. A lot of needs there.
