I've been screaming from the rooftops

About this very topic for a long time. It's embarrassing that we became a perennial contender in basketball only to piss away all that momentum by not giving basketball the proper funding. A competent Athletic Department would capitalize on a final 4 run and invest more $$$$ to sustain the success. Instead here at Auburn we piss away the one good sport we have. If things don't change we're back to being a bottom dweller. JABA!

Auburn basketball has half the budget they need to be a serious program. I believe the future is signing 4-5 year players and develop them. Add 1-2 portal additions a year.

Yep. Sadly, you can look at the roster construction and understand that quickly. We are having to play a walk-on. I wonder if the other final 4 teams (Florida, Duke, Houston) are having to do that?

There is enough money. They just choose to allocate it poorly. We don’t need 60 million spent on baseball renovations for example.

Would love to know the realistic solution to this if there is one. Is it an allocation issue or do we need to find more specific basketball donors etc.

Two problems with that strategy: 1. Scholarship limits - you need somewhere between 10-12 players every year that are capable of providing legitimate minutes. You can go less than that but you put yourself in a tough spot if injuries occur. There’s limited room for true developmental prospects. 2. Once these developmental players actually develop into good/great players they’ll just portal out for a bigger payday. There’s no way to go about building a contender basketball program while penny-pinching. Whether you target the portal or you target HS, it’s going to take high level investment to acquire AND retain key pieces. You’re either in or you’re out on that. It’s so difficult in this NIL age to have multiple competitive/contender programs in the big 3 sports - football, basketball, and baseball. Auburn and its athletic donors, like it or not, has always and will always value football above basketball. Do we want to be a football school or a basketball school? Almost every important donor will say football. Can you do both at a high level? I doubt it and I think that’s why it’s rare to see a school excel at both at the same time.

I mean we really don't have the money relatively speaking. It's obvious in Football and Basketball. Our competitors are spending cash like crazy and we are pinching pennies and moving football games to scrap up enough money. We're in trouble.

It’s about time that this is addressed. The athletic department does not allocate the funding for players. That’s NIL. NIL is from donors. You’re barking up the wrong tree. You want the people with money to pay more for basketball when they care way more about football. It’s unarguable that we are a football school. It will always come first.

That’s because of the way the athletic director is choosing to go about this all though, not because the funds wouldn’t be there if we tried.

We’re never gonna have the money UK, Duke, Kansas, etc… have. Add that to a brand new roster and a brand new HC who probably isn’t ready for a job like this and here we are.

What is the Athletic Director’s job, genius? A large majority of it is fundraising.

Let me explain again. Fundraisers asking the people that do not care about basketball. Don’t be retarded. Also, please send a screenshot of your OTV allocation to basketball.

Spending 60 million on baseball was re tard ed. Auburn continues to hire people who do not understand where money should go.

Yeah, not understand that point he made at all. You think Keith Carter is just sitting on his hands not helping Walker Jones do everything in his power to raise more NIL funds? Zero chance. Not a good take.

Based on what? I don't keep up with basketball NIL as much as football. Like where does Auburn rank compared to the Top 20 spenders, etc?
