Just when I thought I was going all in on......

K-State Baseball to watch/follow to allow me to be truly done with this basketball season and cheer on a solid K-State team they go and score 2 runs in 20 innings of play in Lafayette, Louisiana and go 0-2 vs the Ragin Cajuns. Oh well, still have Spring Football, Track & Field and Women's Golf to follow!!!

I turned the game on last night and saw one pitch and the following celebration at the plate. It was my fault.

I'm not gonna freak out over this series, but I do freak out watching the constant baserunning blunders and hair brained decisions made on the basepaths. And unfortunately, this is nothing new if you've watched Pete's teams in the past few years. I'm not sure why he doesn't evolve a little over the years on basic fundamentals that most of us have watched being better executed at the 12U level.

Baseball isn’t like basketball or football where only the P4 dominates. There’s good teams all over. Louisiana has a very good baseball program. I wasn’t surprised to lose either game.

Tell me you don't know much about baseball without telling me you don't know much about baseball. And if you don't think Louisiana is legit, well...

I was VERY surprised to only score 2 runs in 20 innings! The losing part is going to happen, but only score 2 runs total in two games to the Ragin Cajuns?!?!

I thought K-State was 'legit' and could score more than 2 runs in 20 innings of baseball vs the Ragin Cajuns

They made the NCAA tournament from 2022-2024, and they won the Sun Belt two years ago. They are a really good team. Also, the Cats have just been on a two week road trip. I mean…that plays a factor

IT'S FACKING BASEBALL! This sort of thing happens to the best teams at times, it's why there are so many games in a season. On average the better teams will have more wins, even though they'll lose a few they shouldn't. Sometimes the bats don't work, sometimes the pitching doesn't work, sometimes there are errors... It's part of the game.

Sometimes every time you finally get a runner on first base they immediately get thrown out at second on a steal attempt

This. LaLa has played one road game against Rice of their 9 games so far. Cats have been on the road for all of their games. Stupid base running is definitely an issue though.

Just two years ago they were the 2 seed in our region where we were a 3 seed. I know they weren't great last year, but they are a good program. 6-3 isn't a bad start at all for us. I wanted 7-2, but we are in a pretty good spot heading into our first home series.

I was hoping for 2-1 in Dallas and 1-1 at LaLa. Didn’t get it, but a home stretch now will be big for this team.

Both teams last night will be in the regionals

Definitely not time to write off the season, but there is a little concern about the offense. They have really struggled in 4 of their last 5 games. Teams go through lulls/slumps in baseball, you just hope you can minimize the length of them.

Yep, they are a solid program with a good coach. Likely back to the tournament this year and took advantage of getting to play a power conference team at home. The data is pretty limited right now, but Louisiana did bump up to #19 in the RPI (warrennolan.com) after this series. I've gotten into K-State baseball a bit only in the last couple of years, but it's clear Hughes' MO is to be super aggressive on the basepaths and a game like last night is going to happen sometimes. Doesn't make it fun, but that's the way his teams play so I'll live with it.

Smoller was discussing how there was no batters eye at the Cajuns stadium. Certainly something that can mess with you as a hitter, especially in a short series.

We've lost by a combined score of 4-2 on the road against a solid southern squad in February. UCLA, Arkansas, LSU, and Georgia are all currently ranked in the top 11 and have lost games in their own ballparks against similar or worse mid major teams in the last 2 days.

Yep. We are one off from what would have been a fairly realistic expectation imo. The sky isn't falling.
