Even though Ruffin fell and dropped out, he’s got a lot of potential. He looks pretty slimmed down an explosive in those clips he’s posted compared to his sr film.

It's a pretty good recruiting class.

OSU has the 3rd highest average rating with 28 signees. The two that are higher, Oregon and LSU, have 21 and 17 signees respectively. This is a monster class.

think the overall direction of balance in HS recruiting is going to shift to a barbell-type structure. you'll push hard to grab the consensus top recruits but w/ the portal you don't want to be shooting your wad on a bunch of guys you're not really really high on and you'll prefer to replace them with less-heralded recruits that have coachable upside. you'll be more likely to be able to retain those guys in yrs 2-3, and probably for cheaper, than some of the 4-stars you liked but with whom you were maybe not super convinced. those 4-stars are more likely to get antsy with lack of playing time & therefore more likely to hit the portal
there's hit & miss w/ all of them, but imo 4-stars are the most volatile in what they end up being. the consensus 5-stars are pretty rarely total busts, and there's a ton of unforeseen value on 3-stars. the 4-stars are in the middle..you obv still see the upside but since they were more "respected" coming out of HS it's less of a surprise when they turn into a monster, and that usually means you end up paying a steeper price tag for a more probable floor on them but that can end up really biting you in the ass if you are wrong on them
so i think it's just more optimal to get cheaper upside, anchored by your near locks at the top. which is to say i think you'll continue to see large classes like this..you want to bring in as many value pieces as you can to see what you can do with them (since you're OSU you are doing it better than pretty much everyone and are more likely to be able to realize that upside). with that kind of HS recruiting philosophy, it gives you a better handle on how you need to approach the portal

The big question will be can Ohio State keep the impact players that they want to keep from this class from transferring

Rivals absolutely hates Kaden Gebhardt. 88th in the state of Ohio. Had 29 Power 4 offers.
Pretty wild how much Ohio State differs on players from Ohio compared to rivals rankings.
Ohio State only offered
4/10
5/15
10/25

I don't know how they weight the consensus ratings, but it is nuts to give ESPN equal weighting to the combined Rivals/On3 and the combined 247/Scout. Maybe it should be 40/40/20??

Bowen is off to a good start for 2027, he’s going to need to step it up on and off the field.

I’d prefer to rank the ‘26 commitment class along with the ‘26 Portal class…..more accurate
