The whole "not moving again" thing is honestly the biggest reason I always felt he wouldn't come back to LSU, at least not this quickly. It was publicly and privately stated when he left McNeese that his wife, Lauren, was adamant about making their next move a more long-term one for the sake of their family and young daughter to have some stability for a while. She had told him to make sure that the "next move" was the right one and a place he felt he could win big so they could remain their a while. However, she may have never factored a return to Baton Rouge as an option in that. I know she and Will both loved it here the first time and still have lots of friends here, so that kind of transition would be much easier on them. I haven't really gotten any updates on the situation except for what I posted in another thread the other day about the news of Schroyer (McNeese AD) supposedly being hired by LSU and announced after McNeese men are out of the tournament. If that ends up happening, it should be the ultimate signal. But there is smoke that Verge may be pushing back on all this.

Landy wants Wade. I think I've made it pretty clear my stance on Wade, as well. But I'm not going to sit here and act like I'd be devistated with hiring anyone else. Verge seems to be all in on keeping McMahon if he has the final word. If the money is there, I don't see why he would even consider that. other than some push back from a select few, behind the scenes, MM supporters. Side Note: He better find a way to get baseball more cash or he'll be in even more hot water. Edit: That is all IF the report of Verge pushing back is accurate.

Verge will fall in line , he isn’t stupid and just saw to his old boss Woodward what can happen if he doesn’t

LSU isn’t firing the HC of the 16th team in the SEC to go after the HC whose team just finished 15th in the SEC. Especially with his off-the-court issues.

My belief is that you see MM brought back. If they were willing to entertain other options, then MM would've been fired last week as soon as the SEC tournament game was over, if not before then. At this point it would be stupid and mismanagement to fire him at this point if you always intended on doing a national search for other options. It's Wade or nothing.

Our roster might be 3 million next year if McMahon is retained. I don’t foresee boosters putting money into men’s basketball NIL next season.

I can't say who he IS scared of. Who he should be scared of is his boss, the new BOS chair, and the Governor. But at this point maybe Verge sees himself as untouchable for whatever reason. Now if you're asking what is he scared of, as in why would he be pushing back, then I believe there are theories. One, I'm sure he isn't thrilled with the idea of bringing in another AD to be over basketball and having Wade reporting directly to him as it limits Verge's ability to manage the entire department as he should be. You can also question if this will limit Verge's say in the budgeting of MBB too, which obviously creates some chaos in the entire AD budget. And finally, he could feel threatened by another AD being brought in that has previously worked for the President of the university; so he could see it as is he letting the fox in the hen house. Two, I don't know for sure what Verge and Wade's relationship was here the last time. Maybe he feels that he won't be able to adequately supervise or control Wade or that he can't trust him and doesn't want him coming in to disrupt the alignment that has been seemingly created at LSU. But those are just hypotheticals on potential reasons and guesses on my part. Nothing confirmed at all.

Well it would at least be that much b/c that's how much the revenue share portion is for MBB program. I imagine they could scrape together another $2-3M or so, but would still be woefully behind everyone else in the conference.

FWIW, Moscona (I know) said a few days ago that they would at the very least have the same amount of money available to put into the roster next season if McMahon is brought back.

This is the part I'm hoping for. I heard it from a couple different sources on this possibility, but both are more 3rd party or hearsay sources, which is why I termed it as "smoke". But I'm holding out hope that it isn't true or that Verge isn't pushing back hard and will end up seeing the light. I was told a month ago that he was onboard with everything happening, but that was a long time ago and things may have shifted/changed. My fear is that it is true that he is resisting things and even if he is made to fall in line, how much chaos does that cause within the AD as a whole and potentially bleed over into other sports causing tension and a breakdown of alignment that we have been seeing over the past few months.

Maybe so, but I find that hard to believe unless Kuiper and OLOL is stepping up to fill the gap from others who may back away.
