The final injury report before game-day between Vanderbilt and Texas game was revealed on Friday, just one day out from their contest. The biggest question remained the availability of quarterback Arch Manning.

Last weekend, Manning was placed in concussion protocol following the team’s overtime win over Mississippi State. Available or not, head coach Steve Sarkisian was confident in backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell as the Commodores head to Austin.

Below is the full injury report from Friday. The No. 9 Commodores take on the No. 20 Longhorns at 12:00 p.m. ET Saturday in what should be a doozy of a showdown inside the SEC.

Texas Longhorns

Vanderbilt Commodores

For the second consecutive week, Texas squeaked out an overtime road victory over a conference opponent. Saturday night, the Longhorns overcame a 31-14 fourth quarter deficit to hold off Mississippi State’s upset bid 45-38 in overtime. Vanderbilt eked out a 17-10 win over Missouri at home to improve to 7-1, with their lone loss coming to Alabama.

Thanks to Caldwell, Texas secured a game-winning touchdown pass vs. the Bulldogs. Of course on paper, Vanderbilt and Texas will have a headline grabbing quarterback matchup if it’s Diego Pavia vs. Arch Manning.

“He’s a very even-keeled guy,” Sarkisian said of Caldwell. “I think the players have a lot of confidence in him, his maturity, his approach. He’s very engaged even when he doesn’t play. If you ever watched our sidelines in-game, 18 is probably the most engaged player on that sideline. He’s always picking guys up on offense, defense, and special teams.

“He’s got a really good relationship with the guys, so I don’t think it’s like ‘who is this guy?’ He’s in a lot of faces a lot of the times. It felt very comfortable and felt very normal today.”

With just four games left, Vanderbilt is in prime position near the top of the SEC. Not only that, with the way Lea is coaching them up, the College Football Playoff is certainly a possibility. Time will tell if they can get there.
