Cam Coleman, Seth McGowan injury update: Auburn, Kentucky reveal status of key players on Thursday report

Fresh off its first SEC victory of the season, Auburn returns home for its Week 10 matchup vs. Kentucky, entering the game as a 10.5-point home favorite according to BetMGM, with an over-under 45.4 points.
The Tigers (4-4, 1-4 SEC) are riding high after backup quarterback Ashton Daniels sparked Auburn to a 33-24 road victory at Arkansas, while the Wildcats (2-5, 0-5 SEC) are still searching for their first SEC victory. Kentucky lost all five SEC games this season by an average point differential of 15 points, including Saturday’s 56-34 loss to Tennessee inside Kroger Field in Lexington.
Given Daniels’ success against the Razorbacks, Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze re-opened the team’s starting quarterback competition this week, though he remains undecided between Daniels and Jackson Arnold. Arnold started Auburn’s first eight games this season and led the team to a 3-4 record.
“Through two practices, they’re both really great guys that prepare well. They’re getting us in the right things, they’re setting the protections the right way, they’re both making accurate throws – for the most part,” Freeze said Wednesday on the SEC’s weekly coaches teleconference. “And so, it’s really hard to decipher the difference when you’re in practice, and that’s what’s been so difficult. Jackson, of course, has gotten more of the reps because Ashton wasn’t here until late July, and that’s why it’s so difficult to decide.”

Auburn wide receiver sophomore Cam Coleman left last Saturday’s game against Arkansas in the first quarter with a right leg injury and has been severely limited to individual work while rehabbing through the Tigers’ first few practices this week. Still, Freeze is admittedly “optimistic he’ll give it a go” Saturday against Kentucky.
“He hasn’t practiced, but he’s out there doing the indo (individual),” Freeze said of Coleman during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. “I thought he moved around pretty well today. Obviously they’re just letting him do straight line stuff right now, but he’s one that’s in the training room constantly, and is going to do everything possible to play. And we’re hopeful that he will.

“Me watching him today, I would say I’m optimistic he’ll give it a go, but that’s just from my viewpoint of watching him move around today and his attitude.”
Coleman’s presence will be vital, especially given Auburn’s other offensive absenses expected with starting center Connor Lew, receiver Horatio Fields and running back Durell Robinson all expected to be out again this week.
Meanwhile, Kentucky has dealt with its own difficult injury situation all season, including leading rusher Seth McGowan, who sat out last week’s game against Tennessee after suffering an unspecified injury the week prior against Texas. McGowan leads the Wildcats with 476 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin, who has hauled in 11 receptions for 152 yards this season, also popped up on the report.
Kentucky starting corner DJ Waller Jr. has also missed most of the season with a nagging hamstring injury suffered in the season opener vs. Toledo. It appeared that he would return against Texas, but a pregame setback kept him out. He’s sat out the last six games.
