Coaches Poll Top 25: College Football Rankings released after turbulent Week 2
On3

The latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings are here following a turbulent Week 2 of college football. There were blowouts and upsets!

So with that, expect some changes in the rankings. Two weeks does not make a season of course, but there are notable takeaways from the action.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the Coaches Poll following Week 2. We start at the top!

1. Ohio State

Ohio State dominated Grambling State from the get-go, winning 70-0 in this one. It was a nice follow up to the epic win over Texas in Week 1.

The defending champs certainly have something cooking and should be a national title contender all season long. Don’t expect the train to slow down anytime soon.

2. Penn State

Penn State is simply trying to keep pace with Ohio State at this point. James Franklin and crew impressed once again with a 34-0 shutout of FIU to improve to 2-0.

The opponents will get tougher, especially when they play Oregon and Ohio State later this season. But, the Nittany Lions will remain high up in the Coaches Poll until further notice.

3. Georgia

Georgia won only 28-6 over Austin Peay, but perhaps they can blame the lightning delay for that! That’s even after they moved the kickoff time up!

The Bulldogs piled up 190 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Productive day, time for the next one.

4. LSU

LSU had a huge win over Clemson in Week 1 but had a less than stellar win over Louisiana Tech. Still, the Tigers came out on top 23-7.

There’s a massive matchup with Florida looming as the Gators are now reeling after a loss to USF. It’s the SEC opener for both squads.

5. Oregon

Oregon absolutely whacked Oklahoma State on Saturday. It was funnier considering the verbal sparring between Dan Lanning and MIke Gundy leading up to it, but the Ducks got the last laugh, or laughs, in a 69-3 win.

Maybe people were quick to write off Oregon as a team that would fall back a little bit. The Ducks look dominant and could contend for a second straight Big Ten title.

6. Miami (+1)

Miami followed up an epic win over Notre Dame with a dominant one over Bethune-Cookman, The Coaches Poll likes that!

The Hurricanes got a great performance out of Carosn Beck, who threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns. He only threw two incompletions! Miami’s defense limited Bethune to just 191 total yards.

7. Texas (-1)

Texas bounced back in a big way, and perhaps a necessary way, with a 38-7 win over San Jose State. It erased the bad taste, mostly from last week’s loss to Ohio State.

So, they’ll remain in the top 10 of the Coaches Poll as Arch Manning showed why he had a lot of hype. It took him a couple of drives, but Manning delivered five total touchdowns while the defense stood out again, holding the Spartans to just 273 yards and one score.

8. Notre Dame (+1)

Notre Dame had a week off following a loss to Miami but it didn’t quite affect their standing in the Coaches Poll. Perhaps the Fighting Irish needed a week to decompress and get ready for Texas A&M.

The schedule isn’t easy so we’ll truly see what this team is made of moving forward. Still feels like a College Football Playoff team.

9. Illinois (+3)

Illinois smoked Duke on the road in a Big Ten-ACC battle. Coming in, some thought Duke could continue a special run under Manny Diaz.

The Fighting Illini were too much as Luke Altmyer threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns. In the 45-19 win, Illinois outscored Duke 31-6 in the second half after a promising start from the Blue Devils and Darian Mensah.

10. South Carolina (+1)

South Carolina took care of in-state rival South Carolina Sate 38-7. Despite a sluggish start on offense, the Gamecocks eventually woke up.

Special teams were the story on Saturday though. Vicari Swain returned two punts for touchdowns.
