Coaches Poll Top 25: College Football Rankings released after wild Week 3
On3

The latest Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings have been released following a wild Week 3 of college football. We saw upsets, dominance and games coming down to the wire!

Now that we are a quarter of the way through the regular season, we have a bit of an idea of how these teams stack up. Still, conference play is about to get rolling, so we could have total chaos.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the Coaches Poll Top 25. We’ll start at the top of the rankings!

1. Ohio State

Ohio State started slow but ended up rolling their way to a 37-9 win over in-state foe Ohio. The Buckeyes remained undefeated after a mostly solid day.

Julian Sayin threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off twice. Bo Jackson had 100 yards on the ground.

2. Penn State

Penn State rolled again with a 52-6 win over Villanova. So with that, they remain high up in the Coaches Poll.

As far as a true challenge, the Nittany Lions didn’t have a standout non-conference game, but they’ve taken care of business. Now, they get two weeks before hosting Oregon in a massive Big Ten game.

3. Georgia

Georgia responded after a poor first quarter and beat Tennessee 44-41 in overtime on the road. What a win for Kirby Smart and crew.

Gunner Stockton continued to keep critics quiet with 304 yards and two touchdowns passing while running for another. Georgia gets a week off before hosting Alabama now.

4. LSU

LSU’s offense didn’t look too great, but Brian Kelly will tell you otherwise of course. The Tigers beat Florida 20-10 at home with stout defense.

Heck, the Tigers forced five DJ Lagway interceptions in this one! However they win, LSU and Kelly will be sure to tell you it’s the only thing that matters.

5. Oregon

Oregon dominated Northwestern after a slow start and the Ducks are certainly trying to make their case to be the best team in the country. They’re still high up in the Coaches Poll.

They’ll play rival Oregon State next week, so it’ll be interesting to see how they handle that one before Penn State. It’s going to start heating up for Dan Lanning and company.

6. Miami

Miami erased any great USF talk with a dominating 49-12 win at home over the Bulls. This is a bonafide top 10 team in the Coaches Poll.

Despite throwing two interceptions, Carson Beck had 340 yards and three touchdowns in the air. He also ran for 28 yards and a score.

7. Texas

Texas struggled offensively, so the fans ended up booing Arch Manning and the offense. Manning was responsible for three touchdowns, but it was still an inconsistent performance in a 27-10 win over UTEP.

This is still a top 10 team in the Coaches Poll after three games, but it remains to be seen how they’d fare against the meat of their SEC schedule. Next up is Sam Houston State before it gets tough once again.

8. Illinois (+1)

Illinois blanked Western Michigan 38-0 to improve to 3-0 on the season and Bret Bielema’s crew is quietly in the top 10 of the Coaches Poll. Now, he could’ve told you this in the summer, but some don’t want to believe him!

Luke Altmyer threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns while running for another. Kaden Feagin and Ca’Lil Valentine combined for 30 carries, 163 yards and two touchdowns.

9. Florida State (+3)

Florida State had a bye week and moved into the top 10 of the Coaches Poll this week. It’s certainly been quite the turnaround from last year’s 2-10 campaign, although it’s still early.

The Seminoles will host Kent State this coming weekend before getting underway in ACC play with Virginia. Onward!

10. Texas A&M (+7)

What a win for Texas A&M, 41-40 on the road against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have some work to do, but that was a landmark win for Mike Elko and crew.

Welcome to the top 10 of the Coaches Poll Aggies! Marcel Reed played well and RB Le’Veon Moss ran for 86 yards and three touchdowns.
