College Football Rankings: Joel Klatt overhauls top 10 after Week 7

Joel Klatt had no choice but to give his college football rankings a makeover after Week 7’s stunning slate of games. On Monday, the FOX Sports analyst revealed his updated top 10 college football rankings.
Seven teams in the AP Top 25 suffered losses this past weekend. Five of those losses were against unranked opponents. With half the regular season in the rearview mirror, each game is more important than the last for teams aiming for the College Football Playoff.
While Klatt can’t guarantee any of the following teams will be lifting the national championship trophy at the end of the season, he believes they’re trending in the right direction. With so much to discuss, let’s dive into Klatt’s revised rankings.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State maintained its spot atop Klatt’s rankings with its convincing 34-16 win No. 17 Illinois on Saturday. In the triumph, the Buckeyes’ defense continued to look like one of the best in college football, holding the Fighting Illini to 294 total yards and forcing three turnovers.
Ohio State’s offense wasn’t quite as spectacular in the win as it’s been in some previous contests, but it’s difficult to complain about 34 points. Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith had a relatively quiet day, only tallying 42 receiving yards and a touchdown in the triumph.
2. Indiana Hoosiers (+4)

Klatt bumped Indiana up four spots in his rankings after the Hoosiers marched into Autzen Stadium and handed Oregon a 30-20 upset loss on Saturday. The Hoosiers’ victory snapped Oregon’s 18-game winning streak at home, which was the longest active streak in the country.
Indiana’s defense was suffocating. The unit sacked Oregon quarterback Dante Moore six times and picked him off twice. In total, Oregon only managed to record 267 yards against Indiana. Meanwhile, Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza was responsible for 246 yards of offense himself.
3. Miami Hurricanes
Miami enjoyed a bye this past weekend after downing Florida State 28-22 in Week 6. With the win, the Hurricanes officially secured the “state championship.” Miami boasts wins over USF, Florida and FSU this season.
Additionally, Miami kicked off its 2025 campaign with a victory over last season’s national runner-up, Notre Dame. With no ranked teams remaining on their schedule, the Hurricanes have an excellent chance of entering the postseason undefeated.
4. Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M is an unwavering pill in the turbulent SEC waters. The Aggies handily defeated Florida 34-17 on Saturday to improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
Texas A&M relied heavily on its ground game in the win, notching 183 total rushing yards. Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed was also solid, completing 16-of-his-26 pass attempts for 234 yards and a touchdown, while running in another.
5. Alabama Crimson Tide (+2)

Alabama was never able to put the game entirely out of reach against Missouri, but the Crimson Tide ultimately escaped with the win on Saturday. It was a resilient effort from the Crimson Tide, who are 5-0 since losing their season-opener to Florida State.
Once again, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson looked like a Heisman candidate in the outing. In the nail-biting battle, Simpson completed 23-of-his-31 pass attempts for 200 passing yards and three touchdowns, without throwing an interception.
6. Texas Tech Red Raiders (+2)
Analysts can’t count on much in the Big 12 to play out as expected. However, the Red Raiders have given Klatt no reason to doubt them quite yet. On Saturday, Texas Tech dominated Kansas in a 42-17 blowout.

Running back Cameron Dickey was fantastic in the win, racking up a jaw-dropping 263 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win. Texas Tech QB Behren Morton left the game with an injury but reportedly could play on Saturday against Arizona State.
7. Oregon Ducks (-5)
Oregon tumbled in Klatt’s college football rankings this week after falling 30-20 to Indiana. It was the Ducks’ worst offensive performance to date this season. They only recorded 267 total yards of offense and were successful on just 3-of-their-14 third-down conversion attempts.
Discipline was also an issue for Oregon. The team committed seven penalties for combined loss of 64 yards and quarterback Dante Moore threw two interceptions. For reference, entering the game, he’d only thrown one interception this season.
8. Georgia Bulldogs (+1)

With each week, Georgia’s loss to Alabama looks less damning. Since the Week 5 shortcoming, Georgia has won back-to-back games. Most recently, the Bulldogs handled business on the road, defeating Auburn 20-10.
The Bulldogs held Auburn to just 278 total yards and forced a goal-line fumble to ultimately secure the win. While Georgia’s offense was far from perfect, QB Gunner Stockton had a respectable showing, not only orchestrating the team’s passing game, but pacing the Bulldogs in rushing yards.
9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (NR)
With two losses already this season, Notre Dame can’t afford another loss. Evidently, Klatt is confident the Fighting Irish will deliver. They certainly looked capable of winning out the rest of their season on Saturday with their 36-7 shellacking of NC State.
Notre Dame’s offense was firing on all cylinders against the Wolfpack. The Fighting Irish logged 485 total yards of offense in the win. Nobody outshined QB CJ Carr, who threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns, while only throwing one interception.
10. Ole Miss (-5)
Ole Miss is still a top 10 team in Klatt’s eyes, but it’s pushing its luck. On Saturday, the Rebels narrowly defeated Washington State 24-21. The Cougars led for most of the game before Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss ran in a TD late in the third quarter to gain the lead.
The tight contest didn’t inspire confidence in the Rebels, who have Georgia and Oklahoma next on their schedule. Nonetheless, at 6-0 and 3-0 in conference play, it’s difficult to exclude Ole Miss from any college football rankings.
