College Football Rankings: Josh Pate shakes up Commissioner's Poll Top 25 with new No. 1 team ahead of Week 9
After a wild week 9 filled with upsets, Josh Pate shook up his Commissioner’s Poll Top 25 college football rankings. A new team sits at No. 1.
Ohio State now takes the top spot following Miami’s upset loss to Louisville in a Friday night primetime game. Additionally, Alabama jumped into the Top 5 amid the Crimson Tide’s six-game win streak, including four straight against ranked opponents.
There were plenty more changes in the Commissioner’s Poll, as well. Here are the full Top 25 college football rankings, as unveiled on Josh Pate’s College Football Show.
1. Ohio State (+1)
Up one spot to No. 1, Ohio State is now the top team in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll. The Buckeyes have been rolling from jump in 2025 and got another resounding victory last week on the road.
Julian Sayin threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns as Ohio State shut out Wisconsin, 34-0, in Madison. The Buckeyes are also the top team in the AP poll as they head into their bye before the final stretch of the season.
2. Alabama (+4)

Following a season-opening loss to Florida State, Alabama has turned things around in a big way. The Crimson Tide have now won six straight and come in at No. 2 in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll college football rankings.
Ty Simpson remains impressive out of the gate as he makes his case for the Heisman Trophy. He has thrown for 1,931 yards and 18 touchdowns, to just one interception, as Alabama heads to South Carolina in Week 9.
3. Indiana (-)
Standing pat at No. 3, Indiana continued to roll in Week 8. The Hoosiers took down Michigan State in Bloomington as they improved to 7-0 on the year.
Fernando Mendoza remains efficient in the IU offense, completing 73.5% of his passes for 1,755 yards and 21 touchdowns, to just two interceptions. Curt Cignetti’s group will continue Big Ten play this week against UCLA.
4. Texas A&M (+1)
The last remaining undefeated SEC team, Texas A&M jumped up one spot to No. 5 in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll. The Aggies have been impressive to start the year, but a big matchup awaits Saturday night.
Mike Elko’s group will head to Baton Rouge for a matchup against Brian Kelly and LSU. The Aggies won the last game between the two and will look to take down the Tigers once again in Week 9.
5. Georgia (+3)

Back in the Top 5 of Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll, Georgia got another big-time win in Week 8. The Bulldogs took down Ole Miss in a bona fide shootout as they improved to 6-1 on the year.
UGA has been impressive following a home loss to Alabama in Week 5, rattling off three wins in a row. Kirby Smart’s group is on a bye this week before the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party game against Florida in Week 10.
6. Miami (-5)
An upset loss to Louisville not only knocked Miami out of the No. 1 spot in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll, but out of the Top 5 entirely. The Hurricanes fell five spots to No. 6 ahead of Week 9.
Carson Beck struggled mightily in the Friday night affair, throwing four interceptions for the first time in his career. Miami could stay in the College Football Playoff picture, though, as the ‘Canes welcome Stanford on Saturday.

7. Georgia Tech (+4)
Another big riser in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll college football rankings, Georgia Tech is now in the Top 10. The Yellow Jackets are now No. 7 entering Week 9 as they stayed undefeated with a win over Duke last time out.
Georgia Tech is the late remaining unbeaten team in the ACC, but is one of three teams still perfect in conference play. Brent Key’s group has an intriguing matchup awaiting in Week 9 as Syracuse heads to Atlanta.
8. Oregon (+2)

After a home loss to Indiana, Oregon made quite a statement last time out against Rutgers. The Ducks put up 750 yards of offense in the resounding win, and they jumped up two spots to No. 8 in the Commissioner’s Poll as a result.
Dante Moore had another strong performance, going 15 of 20 for 290 yards and four touchdowns to lead the charge. The Ducks are looking to keep close in the Big Ten race as they welcome Wisconsin to Autzen Stadium in Week 9.
9. Oklahoma (+3)
Oklahoma bounced back from a loss to Texas by getting a 26-7 win at South Carolina in Week 8. That victory helped propel the Sooners back into the Top 10 of Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll college football rankings.
John Mateer threw for 150 yards and a touchdown in the win, but the running game got going for OU. Tory Blaylock had 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead the charge and help the Sooners stay in the mix.
10. Vanderbilt (+4)
Up four spots following last week’s win over LSU, Vanderbilt is now at No. 10 in the Commissioner’s Poll. The Commodores are also in the Top 10 of the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 1940s as their surge continues under Clark Lea.
Vanderbilt will once again be on the big stage in Week 9 as ESPN’s College GameDay makes the trip to Nashville. The Commodores have another important SEC matchup, this time against Missouri.

As October comes to a close, the Commissioner’s Poll has changed multiple times since its debut in Week 2. It shows the national picture is still coming into focus as Week 9 quickly approaches.
