Colorado landed a commitment from Incarnate Word running back DeKaylon Taylor on Wednesday via the NCAA transfer portal. On3’s Pete Nakos has since confirmed that Taylor has signed with the Buffaloes.

Taylor spent three seasons at Incarnate Word, being a massive piece on the offensive end but also as a special teams guy. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Taylor returned 29 kicks for a total of 576 yards. He was then moved to punt return, really making an impact this past year with 286 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts.

Colorado will have an opportunity to use him in the return game plenty. However, there should be plenty of interest in getting Taylor into the backfield too. Over 1,000 total yards filled the stat sheet last season with Incarnate Word, 909 of which were on the ground. Taylor averaged 6.0 yards per carry and added nine touchdowns.

The On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings had Taylor as a three-star prospect. He was No. 1,852 on a national level but when just looking at the running back position, Taylor ranked at No. 149.

This just continues what has been a great run in the transfer portal for head coach Deion Sanders. Building his team out from the outside is nothing new. Sanders enters a critical third season in charge, adding a nice running back to the mix after spring practice.

Colorado continues to pull in NCAA transfer porta commitments

Former Tennessee defensive back John Slaughter committed to Colorado out of the NCAA transfer portal, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. He also visited Purdue but chose Boulder.

Slaughter contributed six tackles and an interceptions for the Volunteers during his two seasons on campus. Most of his production came during his sophomore season, where he logged five of those tackles along with the interception. He’ll have two years of eligibility left.

Before college, Slaughter was a three-star recruit according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 584 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 54 safety.
