ESPN shook up its latest FPI Top 25 rankings following a wild Week 6 of college football featuring upsets, domination and down to the wire games. Naturally, there will be much debate about the list.

FPI doesn’t use votes, just data, metrics and future projections. We have an interesting look at some of the best teams in college football.

So, let’s dive into the latest FPI rankings from ESPN. We’ll start at the top with a new No. 1 team!

1. Ohio State (+1)

The Buckeyes rolled to a 42-3 victory over Minnesota over the weekend. With the win, Ohio State moved up one spot to the top of the FPI this week.

It seems like a two-team race for the top of the Big Ten right now. Ryan Day’s squad and Dan Lanning’s squad out west, which we’ll dive into right now!

2. Oregon (-1)

Oregon was the victim of a bye week, at least in terms of the FPI rankings. The Ducks just beat Penn State last week in an epic game, but that win might lose a tiny bit of luster.

Lanning and company have certainly been dominant this year and they don’t play Ohio State in the regular season. But they do have Indiana coming to town this week!

3. Alabama

The Crimson Tide stood pat in the FPI this week following a win over Vanderbilt. The 30-14 win over a ranked and undefeated Commodores team was certainly different than last year.

Kalen DeBoer turning this team around after a Week 1 loss to Florida State should be admired. They’ve won four in a row and don’t plan on slowing down.

4. Indiana (+1)

Indiana moved up by virtue of the bye week this time! It’s really only due to one team’s falling the FPI, which we’ll get into of course.

The Hoosiers beat Iowa last time out and will get their biggest test of the year when they travel to Oregon. Indiana is a playoff contender again, but if they beat Oregon, it might be time to wonder if this team could win a darn national championship!

5. Notre Dame (+1)

Make it three wins in a row for Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish took down Boise State 28-7 at home. It was a complete game all the way around.

Marcus Freeman and company moved up a spot in the FPI this week and we can start talking playoffs again considering the two losses are to undefeated Miami and Texas A&M squads. We press on.

6. Georgia (+1)

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs wanted to eliminate the bad taste out of their mouths, so they beat up on Kentucky 35-13. This game, albeit a two-score one, was pretty much done at halftime.

Georgia moved up a spot in the FPI and are back on track at 4-1. They’ll head to Auburn and host Ole MIss over the next two weeks.

7. Ole Miss (+1)

Speaking of Ole Miss, the Rebels were another team that was on a bye week but moved up in the FPI. They had the massive win over LSU to improve to 5-0 and will return with a non-conference tilt next weekend.

Washington State comes to town before Ole Miss gets a stretch of Georgia, Oklahoma and South Carolina in the SEC. Evidence in 2025 suggests Ole Miss might be a little better than usual!

8. Texas (-4)

Perhaps it’s time to lay Texas’ national title hopes to rest. Yes, we’re only about halfway through the year, but the Longhorns dropped their second game, this time to an unranked Florida team.

Arch Manning tossed two picks, despite a respectable stat line and the defense looked a little lost against the Gators. They dropped four spots in the FPI, but remained in the top 10 for now.

9. Miami

Miami didn’t budge in the FPI rankings but the Hurricanes earned one of the biggest victories of the weekend. They absolutely dominated Florida State in Tallahassee, at least for three quarters.

Now at 5-0, despite a late rally by FSU, Miami is thinking of the ACC title and national championship. This could very well be Mario Crisotbal’s best squad.

10. USC

USC stayed in the top 10 of the FPI on a bye week, but they most recently lost 34-32 to Illinois. But they’ll welcome Michigan this week in a must-see Big Ten game.

Lincoln Riley’s done a good job getting the program back on the right footing. It’ll be an interesting watch over the next few weeks.
