Five takeaways from Ole Miss, Ohio State pro days
Ohio State and Ole Miss hosted their respective pro days Wednesday, which meant that Rebels quarterback Matt Corral showcased his arm (and ankle) talent to scouts throughout the NFL. While it was Corral’s day in the spotlight in Oxford, there were some surprises on the Ohio State side that proved why they deserve to hear their names called on draft day.
Here are five takeaways from the event per NFL.com’s Nick Shook:
Matt Corral’s impressive day
Corral showcased his arm strength, quick release and athleticism throughout his workout Wednesday. A couple deep balls were heaved over the shoulder of his receivers on multiple occasions. His accuracy was on the money for most of his workout, but showed small flaws in his footwork likely thanks to his recent ankle injury that kept him out of the NFL Combine. Aside from Corral’s receivers dropping the ball on occasion and in one instance running the wrong route one snap, most scouts likely had positive reports on the former Rebel.
Corral looked healthy
Corral had no limits during his work, meaning he did every quarterback drill despite recovering from his aforementioned ankle injury. He quarterback looked poised, calm and confident in his tight, accurate throws as well as throwing on the run. His performance likely eased a few scouts concerns regarding how his ankle would hold up throughout the draft process and into mini camp.
Notable NFL teams that need quarterbacks in attendance
Thirty-one different NFL teams sent scouts to Columbus and Oxford — the only team missing was the newly crowned Super Champions, the Los Angeles Rams.
Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer and head coach Matt Rhule were in attendance as well as GM/HC duos Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin (Steelers) and Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith (Falcons) were in attendance to see Ole Miss. Rhule and Tomlin seemed especially interested in the first round prospect, Tomlin went to speak with Corral before his workout.

Ohio State wide receivers showed out
Chris Olave ran a 4.39 in his 40-yard-dash time while Garrett Wilson ran a 4.38 at the NFL Scouting Combine, and elected not to run again during their Pro Day. Instead, they focused on route running and looked better than advertised ahead of the NFL Draft. Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud was there to throw his receivers balls, so scouts that attended got an early look at a potential future first round draft choice.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen and Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst, Washington general manager Martin Mayhew and head coach Ron Rivera, Houston head coach Lovie Smith and Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel were in attendance to watch the duo, per NFL Network’s Stacey Dales.
New stars
Master Teague, a running back from Ohio State running back that spent time on the injury list throughout the 2021 season had a fantastic workout Wednesday. He pumped out 27 reps on the bench press, the most on the entire team. Teague almost posted a 10-foot-11 broad jump — that number is higher than any running back during the Combine by at least three inches.
Look for him to jump on some teams radars over the next few weeks.
