LOOK: FOX makes hilarious Michigan-related graphics mistake during Michigan State vs Rutgers
Saturday afternoon saw a highly anticipated matchup at Madison Square Garden between the Michigan State Spartans and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. However, one FOX graphic listed a much different team wearing green and white.
At halftime, FOX showed a graphic that listed Michigan State as the “Michigan State Wolverines” — obviously mixing up the Spartans with their arch rival, Michigan, in Ann Arbor. The screenshot made its way around Twitter during the game, which Rutgers won 61-55.
It’s worth noting Michigan State is supposed to play Michigan Feb. 18 — appropriately, on FOX.
The first half was a defensive display as Michigan State took a 25-19 lead into the locker room. The second half was much different, though, as Rutgers outscored the Spartans 42-30 out of the break to come away with the victory. Paul Mulcahy and Cliff Omoruyi led the way with 17 points and 15 points, respectively, while Omoruyi pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.
As for Michigan State, Tyson Walker led the Spartans in scoring with 12 points and Joey Hauser added 10 as the team struggled from the floor. They shot just 34.5%, including a 4-for-21 showing from three-point territory.

This isn’t the first time Michigan State has struggled on offense this season. The Spartans had a rough go against Purdue earlier this week, and Tom Izzo said his team has struggled getting into a rhythm.
“We shot 48% and 50% from the three and I couldn’t agree with you more (that we were never in a great rhythm). You’re right on the money. I didn’t think there was any rhythm,” Izzo said. “Jaden (Akins) did some good things. But, when it was critical, we didn’t slow it down and we didn’t get in to things. We kept the ball in the middle of the court. But we didn’t get Joey going, didn’t get Tyson going very much. Those two things hurt a lot. Some of that is on us, some of it is our quarterback’s gotta know that.”
