Heather Dinich trashes 'garbage' AP Poll, placement of Florida State

The AP Poll released the latest edition of their rankings for the Top-25 on Sunday. It has now again since been criticized, including by ESPN’s Heather Dinich on Monday.
Dinich was asked for her biggest takeaway from this past weekend in college football while appearing on SportsCenter this afternoon alongside Paul Finebaum and Matt Barrie. She didn’t even go with a game, though, as she went at the AP Poll for being “garbage”.
“It’s garbage. That’s my thought,” Dinich stated. “Look, you can’t take it seriously.”
Her evidence for that was the fall by Florida State from No. 8 to No. 18 in the AP Poll. That’s with the Seminoles having lost their first game of the season, on the road in conference play, each for the first time this fall, and in double overtime, at 46-38 to Virginia in Charlottesville. Dinich felt that was too much of a drop, especially considering FSU themselves had gone from unranked to into the top-fifteen and top-ten based on them having beaten Alabama – with that win only looking that much better now considering where the Tide come in at No. 10 coming off their own win this weekend in Athens.
“It’s way too reactionary, as evidenced by the fact that Florida State dropped ten spots after losing in double overtime in its first road game of the season to a very good Virginia team. This is not the same old Virginia team. They put money into facilities and the transfer portal, okay,” said Dinich. “And, by the way, Florida State beat Alabama. Does everyone forget that? Because, I remember it and, after it happened, everyone said, ‘Hey, that was the SEC team out there, not Alabama!’, ‘Oh, hey, Alabama got beat and pushed around up front!’ – the same Alabama team that just went and beat Georgia.”
“So, Florida State should not be below the Tide, let alone drop to No. 18,” Dinich said.
The AP Poll has received a lot of disapproval already with the six editions over the first month of the season. Dinich was the most recent analysts to share her’s today, with it based on the biggest shift of the week with Florida State.
