Heisman Trophy Odds: Ranking betting favorites after Week 4 of college football

The latest Heisman Trophy odds are here following Week 4 of college football. The odds are courtesy of BetMGM.
There was some movement within the top 10 candidates, per the odds. In fact, there’s a new favorite for the Heisman Trophy after the first third of the season!
So without further ado, let’s dive into the latest Heisman Trophy odds as we get close to October. We’ll start at the top.
UPDATE: John Mateer, QB – Oklahoma (+2,200, was +900)
The odds have been updated to reflect a shift after Oklahoma announced quarterback John Mateer would undergo surgery on his hand. He moved from the co-favorite (reaching +700) down the board significantly.
Mateer has Oklahoma off to a 4-0 start and has been as good as advertised since coming over from Washington State. Being a dual threat will certainly help his Heisman Trophy chances.
So far, Mateer has 1,215 yards, six touchdowns, three interceptions, a 67.4% completion percentage, 190 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. His passing yards lead the SEC.
Fernando Mendoza, QB – Indiana (+650, was +2,500)

The biggest riser is Mendoza, who’s tied with Mateer for the shortest odds for the Heisman Trophy this year. Since coming over from Cal, he’s been even better for the Hoosiers.
He also helped lead a 63-10 win over previously ranked No. 9 Illinois. Mendoza has 975 yards, 14 touchdowns (FBS leading), zero interceptions and a 76.8% completion percentage. He also has two rushing touchdowns.
Mendoza’s rise continues with the injury to John Mateer, making him the new betting favorite to win the award. He also holds a significant gap above the competition.
Dante Moore, QB – Oregon (+1,200, was +1,100)
How about the resurgence of Moore as he goes through this year with Oregon? His odds got longer only due to the QBs ahead of him, but he’s playing at a high level and is in Heisman Trophy contention.
Moore has 962 yards, 11 touchdowns, one interception and a 74.7% completion percentage. He’ll have a huge test against Penn State this coming weekend.
Carson Beck, QB – Miami (+1,200, was +700)
Beck was the favorite last week but dropped a bit. Again, no fault of his own, but others made a statement when it comes to their Heisman Trophy chances.
So far this year, Beck has 972 yards, seven touchdowns, three interceptions, a 73.2% completion percentage and a rushing touchdown. Before too long, he could be piloting the No. 1 team in the country.
Gunner Stockton, QB – Georgia (+1,400, was +1,200)

Stockton’s odds for the Heisman Trophy got a little longer this week, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t playing well. In fact, he’s playing well above expectations, at least from outsiders.
In three games this year, Stockton has 721 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 70.8% completion percentage. He also has 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Marcel Reed, QB – Texas A&M (+1,500)
Reed’s odds didn’t shift from last week, but he’s still within the top 10 guys for the Heisman Trophy. The Aggies’ offense goes as Reed goes.
In three games, Reed has been very impressive. He has 869 yards, nine touchdowns, one interception, a 58.6% completion percentage, 142 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Josh Hoover, QB – TCU (+1,500, was not listed last week)
Hoover didn’t make the cut as far as the top contenders last week. But now he’s squarely in the Heisman Trophy conversation through the first four weeks.

In just three games this season, Hoover has 1,000 yards, 11 touchdowns, two interceptions and a 68% completion percentage. Could he guide TCU to a Big 12 title?
Joey Aguilar, QB – Tennessee (+1,500)

Aguilar coming to Tennessee was a big deal because former Vols QB Nico Iamaleava went to UCLA, thereby making this a de facto trade. But Aguilar has been nothing short of spectacular so far.
Yes, they lost to Georgia the other week in overtime, but Aguilar could get Tennessee back to the College Football Playoff. He has 1,124 yards, 12 touchdowns, three interceptions, a 66.7% completion percentage and one rushing touchdown. His touchdown passes lead the SEC.
Garrett Nussmeier, QB – LSU (+1,500)
Nussmeier’s odds didn’t shift at all after last week. But, he’s still in contention for the Heisman Trophy through the first four games of the year.
Nussmeier has 962 yards, six touchdowns, two interceptions and a 68.6% completion percentage. He also has a rushing touchdown on the season.
Jeremiah Smith, WR – Ohio State (+1,600)
This is the only non-QB on the Heisman Trophy list, as far as the top 10 and next tier of contenders are concerned. Smith has an argument for best overall player in college football though.
He’s certainly the best WR coming back from last year and beyond as well. In three games, he has 20 catches for 315 yards, three touchdowns and 15.8 yards per catch. He’s on pace to equate and pass his numbers from his freshman campaign.
