Lane Kiffin activates automatic contract extension, hefty bonus with win over Oklahoma

Lane Kiffin will enjoy Saturday’s Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma in more ways than one. Not only did he beat a ranked team on the road for the first time but a nice contract extension is heading his way. According to Steve Berkowitz of the USA TODAY, getting to seven wins on the year automatically earned Kiffin another year.
“Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin now set for automatic 1-year contract extension as Rebels get 7th win of season by beating Oklahoma,” Berkowitz said via X. “As of Dec. 8, Kiffin’s deal with Ole Miss Athletic Foundation will be set to run through 12/31/2031. Added year currently set to be worth $9 million, with $7.2 million guaranteed. Kiffin also has $150,000 bonus this season.”
Ole Miss improved to 7-1 on the season in Norman, a game they likely needed to win to remain alive for the SEC Championship game. Kiffin dealt with plenty of off-the-field noise throughout the week, only for the Rebels to respond in a big way. Everyone in Oxford hopes the win can reignite what appears to be a special season.
The noise came from rumors of him leaving Ole Miss in favor of the Florida job. It’s actually something he addressed with the team leading into the game. Not usually something coaches are open and honest about, at least to the public.

“Lane Kiffin told me he usually doesn’t address those kind of coaching rumors in-season, because there’s so much more football to play, and there’s so many bigger things to focus on. But he’s actually going to do things differently today in their team meeting – he is going to address those (Florida) rumors with his players,” ESPN’s Molly McGrath said Friday on SportsCenter.
“He’s going to talk to them about it and say: ‘Hey, this is what happens when you win. This is a compliment to our players, our staff and our entire program.’ He wants to talk to his players about it because there’s so many new guys on their team this year that haven’t dealt with it before.”
Now, as Florida remains interested, there is going to be another layer to deal with. Kiffin gets an extra year on his contract and his salary is not too shabby either. Four more games are guaranteed for Ole Miss before worrying about postseason play, where Kiffin likely has the chance to unlock a few more incentives for himself.
