Nearly an hour and a half before kick-off Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Florida and LSU players broke into a pregame scuffle during warmups.

It appears that the players were however broken up before things could escalate further.

The Gators, fresh off an upset loss at home toĀ USF,Ā kick off play againstĀ LSU Saturday night at 7:30 PM ET. Florida was ranked No. 13 in the country last week but dropped out of the AP Poll completely following the disappointing defeat.

LSUĀ opened the season strong with a 17-10 win on the road against then-No. 4-rankedĀ Clemson, but looked like it was just going through the motions last week againstĀ Louisiana Tech. The Tigers came away with a comfortable 23-7 win thanks to a strong defensive showing, but could never quite put the hammer down on the Bulldogs.

FloridaĀ currently leads the all-time series againstĀ LSUĀ 34-32-2 and won last year’s matchup 27-16. Prior to last year’s win for the Gators,Ā LSUĀ had won five consecutive meetings dating back to 2019. This year’s matchup however is likely the most important forĀ FloridaĀ in theĀ Billy NapierĀ era, as he would sink under .500 as the head coach in Gainesville with a potential loss (20-21).

Following the upset loss toĀ USFĀ last Saturday,Ā FloridaĀ fell to just 14-7 in games played at home, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, under Napier. The loss has caused an uproar of fan outrage, calling for the fourth year head coach to be let go prior to the end of the season. A win overĀ LSUĀ in Baton Rouge could certainly help change this narrative, much like last year’s win did.

Florida broke five-year losing streak with win last season

In 2024,Ā FloridaĀ opened with a 4-5 record but its win over No. 22Ā LSUĀ really kicked off a strong end to the season. The Gators went on to win their next three games (No. 9Ā Ole Miss,Ā Florida StateĀ andĀ Tulane) to finish with an 8-5 record.

While the win would be big for the Gators, it would be equally as big forĀ LSU. The Tigers currently sit at No. 3 in this week’s AP Poll, their highest ranking since reaching the No. 1 spot on Dec. 28, 2019. A strong start to conference play forĀ LSUĀ would add yet another big-time win (to go along withĀ Clemson) to its College Football Playoff resume.
