Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame coaches visit 5-star DL Anthony Lucas
Scottsdale (Ari.) Chaparral five-star defensive lineman Anthony Lucas is closing in on the time frame he gave for when he would make a college decision.
He is choosing between Alabama, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA, and USC — although how recent coaching changes factor into this list is not known.
New Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, one of new four (and soon-to-be five) head coaches on Lucas’ list, went out to Arizona on Tuesday to visit with Lucas.
Freeman was joined by three of his assistant coaches.
Anthony Lucas is the No. 26 overall player in the nation, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He is the 12th-best player in the country in the 2022 On300. Both rankings have him as the top player from the state of Arizona.

The On3 five-star remains a high-ceiling prospect,” On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote. “The physical ability and flashes are certainly there, but he’ll need to continue to ramp up his play strength and physicality to increase his disruption on a snap to snap basis.”
Lucas told On3’s Chad Simmons that he plans to make a decision on Signing Day or at the Under Armour All-American Bowl.
“The academics at Notre Dame are great,” Anthony Lucas said. “That can help me after football anywhere in the country. The football is great every year at Notre Dame too. It is hard to go wrong with Notre Dame because of the combination of academics and athletics.”
