Ole Miss quarterback update ahead of Oklahoma

Ole Miss is expected to start Trinidad Chambliss at quarterback against Oklahoma on Saturday, sources tell On3. Chambliss has started the last five games, emerging as a Heisman contender and posting a 4-1 record as a starter.
Chambliss dropped his first game of the season last week at Georgia. Chambliss emerged as the starter following Austin Simmons‘ ankle injury in September. But Simmons has made good progress and is nearly back to full health, per sources.
Even though Simmons is available, the expectation is Chambliss will start against the Sooners. The Ferris State transfer has thrown for 1,549 yards while rushing for 323 yards and totaling 13 touchdowns. Chambliss has only thrown one interception, too.
A Division II national champion, Chambliss was 23 of 39 for 314 yards and a touchdown and added 71 rushing yards in a 24-19 win over then-No. 4 LSU. He was named AP National Player of the Week for his performance against the Tigers. At Georgia last week, the quarterback was 19 of 36 for 263 yards with three total touchdowns.

Simmons suffered an ankle injury against Kentucky in September. He’s back to nearly full health and saw some action against Georgia, part of a package featuring Chambliss and Simmons.
“We’re in a great place,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin previously said. “I mean, we have two great quarterbacks. We have two quarterbacks that are better than a lot of people’s No. 1. It’s awesome to be in this position.”
No. 8 Ole Miss (6-1) visits No. 13 Oklahoma (6-1) on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on ABC.
