Red River Rivalry: Arch Manning waves to Oklahoma crowd after scramble to help seal win

As he worked to seal a Red River Rivalry win over Oklahoma, Arch Manning used his legs to make it happen. The Texas quarterback rattled off a 29-yard scramble in the fourth quarter – and he had a message for the Sooners faithful.
As Manning got back up, he waved to the fans in attendance at the Cotton Bowl. It was his way of saying goodbye as Texas used a huge second-half performance to take down No. 6 Oklahoma in the annual rivalry game in Dallas.
Manning had a strong showing as he threw for 166 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 rushing yards. But it was the 29-yard scramble that set helped officially seal the monumental victory.
It was a strong bounce-back performance from Arch Manning, who had an up-and-down performance to start the year. The Texas quarterback stayed the course to help lead his team to a rivalry win, but he also made sure to give plenty of credit to running back Tre Wisner and the rest of his teammates. In fact, Manning gave Wisner the game ball.
“It was tough,” Manning told Holly Rowe. “I’m proud of our team for coming together. Tre Wisner … it’s all about him. I’m just proud of our team. I wish we could play like this every week going forward.”

Wisner had a monster day, as well, as he ran for 94 yards and totaled 34 receiving yards in the passing game. It was quite the performance from Wisner, who has been dealing with an injury. But it turned into a team effort as the offense and defense shined, and that was his message after the game.
“It’s always hard,” Wisner said. “Knowing what’s at stake, knowing that the defense knows you’re going to run the ball and to still come out and execute at a high level. I give our props to my teammates, man. My defense, the coaches, the o-line, the quarterback. Everybody’s just coming in and doing their job.”
The Texas defense also showed out in the second half, keying in on John Mateer – who was playing 17 days removed from hand surgery – and holding Oklahoma to just 88 yards after halftime. OU also mustered up 48 rushing yards on the day, including just five in the second half. Mateer threw three interceptions as he went 20 of 38 passes for 202 yards.
