According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the North Texas Mean Green are hiring Errin Joe to be the program’s next general manager. Joe is currently the director of scouting in Austin for the Texas Longhorns. New head coach Neal Brown dips into a big-time program to find his GM.

“North Texas is expected to hire Texas director of scouting Errin Joe as its general manager, sources tell @CBSSports,” Zenitz said via X. “Before Texas, Joe was general manager at Georgia Tech. Prior to that, he worked at Alabama.”

There is a prior relationship between Joe and Brown due to this past season. Brown spent some time on the 40 Acres after getting fired by West Virginia. He served as an analyst for head coach Steve Sarkisian, helping the Longhorns in certain areas. Interaction between the two came then, eventually leading to the coming together in Denton.

Texas continually puts together some of the best recruiting classes in all of college football. Joe certainly played a role. Experience is there in recruiting players inside the state, something you have to imagine North Texas will make a major priority.

Not just when it comes to high school either. North Texas will want to use the NCAA transfer portal effectively moving forward. Joe provides a nice lane to do so, being a major hire for Brown early in his tenure.

Steve Sarkisian reveals Texas never thought of opting out of bowl game

Steve Sarkisian put on his political hat throughout the past few days, hoping to get his team into the College Football Playoff. Alas, the effort fell short, and Texas will instead go to the Citrus Bowl to face off against Michigan. Certainly not the destination Sarkisian wanted but the Longhorns will head to Orlando for the game.

Off the backs of Notre Dame opting out of their bowl game, Sarkisian was asked if that was ever in consideration for Texas. Sarkisian laid out the thought process behind accepting the bid, believing a good opportunity is ahead.

“No, we did not,” Sarkisian said. “We felt like if we didn’t get into the CFP, being right on the cusp, we’d have an opportunity to go to a really good bowl game. You think about the long-standing tradition of the Citrus Bowl, with a really quality opponent in Michigan, coming out of the Big Ten, that this was going to be a great opportunity for us, for our players, for our team.”
