Florida State wide receiver Squirrel White was targeted on the final play of double overtime on Friday night against Virginia, as quarterback Thomas Castellanos was intercepted. The Tennessee transfer was caught in the mix of the field rush moments after the incomplete pass sealed a 46-38 Virginia win.

On3 confirmed on Saturday morning that White made it to the locker room with the rest of his teammates and is OK. Florida State had a chance to tie, but Duce Robinson bobbled a pass going out the back of the end zone on third down. On 4th-and-12 at the 27, Castellanos looked to White in the end zone, but was intercepted by Ja’son Prevard. Virginia fans instantly stormed the field.

The ACC installed a policy this summer that fines schools for field and basketball court stormings. The first field rush results in a $50,000 fine, the second $100,000 and third or more over two years is a $200,000 penalty. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said in his postgame press conference that he believed all his players were unharmed in the field rush.

“I hope that nobody got injured,” Virginia head coach Tony Elliott said in his postgame press conference. “You don’t want to see that. I hate that I didn’t get a chance to go shake coach Norvell’s hand, because I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for him and what he’s done with that program.”

The Seminoles rallied to force overtime, with Castellanos throwing an 11-yard touchdown on 4th down with 32 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. White had two catches in the loss and has 52 receiving yards on the season.

Florida State opened the season with a win over Alabama, rising to No. 8 in the AP Top 25 poll. The Seminoles turn around to host No. 2 Miami next weekend in Tallahassee for a primetime matchup.
