Vanderbilt vs. Auburn odds: Win probability, final score prediction for Commodores, Tigers

Reeling after two road losses last week, the Auburn Tigers have a prime opportunity to bounce back as they host last-place SEC foe Vanderbilt Wednesday evening.

After winning Co-SEC Coach of the Year last season, the Commodore program seemed to be trending up under Jerry Stackhouse, but 2023-24 has seen Vandy nose-drive straiight back to the basement of the league, as they’ve beaten one team ranked higher than 294th in KenPom and currently ride an 0-6 league record into Auburn. Meanwhile, the Tigers just had their 11-game winning streak snapped with two losses last week.

So, in a battle between two clubs who were swept in SEC play a week ago, let’s see who’s projected to come out on top.

Odds for Vandy vs. Auburn

FanDuel certainly isn’t expecting a very close contest between one of the SEC’s top teams at home for a matchup vs. the basement-dweller. They peg the Tigers as 18.5-point favorites.

On the money-line, Auburn is the massive favorite at -4000, which is hardly worth betting. Meanwhile, if there’s any Commodore believers out there, they can cash in on a +1400 ML bet if they believe Vanderbilt will pull off a shocker on the road.

Final Score Predictions

Our analytically-minded friend KenPom is even more bullish on an Auburn bounce-back. His metrics believe the Tigers will triumph by 22 points with an 82-60 final score. He also gives Vanderbilt a measly 2% chance to pickup the road victory.

Hold on, folks, because we are just now reaching the most lopsided prediction of them all. ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI) has Auburn as favorites by 25.2 points. It also assigns the Tigers a 98.2% chance of victory, with Vandy at just 1.8%.

The BPI hands out a Matchup Quality score for each game of the evening as well. Seeing as they predict an immense blowout in favor of the home team, the Vandy-Auburn contest rates as just a 64.2, right in between matchups of Chattanooga-Western Carolina and South Florida-East Carolina. It’s the 15th-highest-rated matchup.

Auburn will try and score a bounce-back win tonight, and certainly needs to avoid what would be a catastrophic third straight loss considering the circumstances. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt could earn one of its best wins of the entire Stackhouse era.
