WATCH: Penn State just released hype video for home opener
The Penn State Nittany Lions are fired up and ready for their home opener. Check out the hype video they just released for their home opener against Ball State.
The Nittany Lions look ready to take on all challengers in the Big Ten as they look to dethrone division and conference champion, Ohio State. This week’s matchup against Ball State will start at 2:30 pm EST. Both teams won their opening week game and will be looking to build off of the momentum.
Last year Penn State was just one of two Big10 schools, the other was Rutgers, who played nine. Which could have been a good thing for them. Entering the season ranked eighth in the AP poll, the Nittany Lions started off the season with a five-game losing streak. Their defense allowed an average of 36 points per game during those games. In their last four games, they were able to turn things around with a near 20 point opponent’s points per game drop. In the last four games, Penn States’ defense allowed just over 17 points a game. They finished off the season with a four-game winning streak, ending with a 4-5 record.

Penn State this year
So far this year the defense of the Nittany Lions looks like it picked up right where they left off. In their season opener last week, they took on conference rival Wisconsin. In a battle of ranked teams, the Nittany Lions upset the No. 12 Badgers, 16-10, taking them from No. 19 all the way up to No. 11 in the AP poll. The loss consequently dropped Wisconsin to No. 18. But most importantly that win gives them a leg up and a solid start to conference play.
If Penn State’s defense holds up throughout the season, they will have a shot at representing the Big10 in this year’s college football playoffs. And with a chance to win it all this year, there’s a lot for Penn States and their fans to be hyped about.
