The Miami Dolphins traded EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It was the third trade made before the deadline by Philadelphia.

“Sources: Miami is trading edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick,” Schefter wrote on Twitter/X. “This is the third trade the Eagles have made in the past week. They now have added Phillips, CB Jaire Alexander and CB Michael Carter.”

In nine games this season, the fifth-year pass rusher has 25 tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery. Phillips has 26 sacks in four-plus seasons in the NFL.

Phillips was drafted out of Miami in 2021 with the No. 18 overall pick by the Dolphins. The former Hurricane and UCLA Bruin was a First-Team All-American in 2020 and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2021.

As a member of the Class of 2017, Phillips was a five-star-plus recruit out of Redlands (Calif.) East Valley, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the state, the No. 1 EDGE in the class and the No. 1 overall prospect in the class.

Phillips is off to Philadelphia, who was on a bye week at 6-2. With Miami sitting at 2-7 following Thursday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, they decided to be sellers.

The Eagles previously acquired DB Michael Carter II in a trade with the Jets, sending WR John Metchie III to New York. Then, they added veteran Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens. With injuries as well as departures from their 2024 championship squad, GM Howie Roseman pulled off three trades for the unit to bolster it for another potential Super Bowl run.

Alexander only played in two games this season for the Ravens. He recorded five tackles, hoping to improve the stat line in Philadelphia. As far as Carter is concerned, he’ll aid Philadelphia’s secondary depth. They’ve been hampered by injuries, such as the one’s to Adoree Jackson. Carter could compete for time across Quinyon Mitchell and aid Cooper DeJean in the slot.

Now in his fifth season, Carter has 223 total tackles, two interceptions, and one sack on his resume. The Eagles are currently on a bye week before returning in less than two weeks on Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers.
