USC was on a bye in Week 9 after suffering a non-conference rivalry loss at Notre Dame. The Trojans got 328 passing yards and two touchdowns from Jayden Maiava, as well as 111 receiving yards and a touchdown from Ja’Kobi Lane, but fell to the Fighting Irish 34-24 in Week 8.
That sent USC into the bye with a 5-2 overall record. The Trojans are also 3-1 in Big Ten play, hoping to stay in contention amid a conference race that’s seen plenty of shifts through the early part of the year.
Nebraska, meanwhile, looked to rebound in Week 9 as the Huskers took on Northwestern at Memorial Stadium. They suffered a Friday night loss to Minnesota in Week 8 after getting back into the rankings, which adds to the importance of the remaining games if they want to stay in contention.

However, Matt Rhule stressed the importance of moving on from the loss to Minnesota. That was his message as Nebraska got ready for Northwestern to come to town.
“You have to get over that, but at the same time, let it burn you a little bit. You can’t just forget about it,” Rhule said. “I’ve seen guys working at a really high level this week. With that being said, this is a difficult opponent, and there’s a lot to prepare for. So we’ve spent the time, worked hard at it, and we will do it all the way up until 11 a.m. Saturday.”
