Hopewell (Va.) three-star defensive lineman T-Ron Richardson has decommitted from Oklahoma, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Richardson was pledged to the Sooners since Aug. 26, but is now back on the board with National Signing Day just two days away. He is coming off an official visit to Virginia Tech over the weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder is the No. 590 overall prospect and No. 65 DL in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 15 recruit in Virginia.

Oklahoma has made some major additions to its 2026 class down the stretch, but Richardson is now headed elsewhere amidst a hectic final push to NSD. He was in OU’s class for just over three months.

Richardson’s decision brings Oklahoma back down to 23 total commits, though Brent Venables and the Sooners are expecting more good news on the recruiting trail this week. At the end of November, OU flipped four-star running back Jonathan Hatton Jr. from Texas A&M, four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit from Wisconsin and three-star safety Markel Ford from SMU.

Oklahoma has the No. 15 class in the nation, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Richardson leaves it with two listed defensive line commits via three-stars Brian Harris and James Carrington.

Virginia Tech charging for big finish to 2026 cycle

If you haven’t paid attention to the recruiting world heading into National Signing Day, then you may not be aware that new Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin has wasted no time building a recruiting class in Blacksburg.

Since becoming the Hokies’ head man, Franklin has landed seven commitments, six of which were former Penn State pledges. The Hokies now have the No. 60 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. On the morning of Nov. 25, they had the No. 121 class.

Four-star running back Messiah Mickens, four-star tight end Pierce Petersohn and four-star quarterback Troy Huhn headline the new additions. Monday has brought the Hokies commitments from Huhn and Rivals four-star linebacker Mathieu Lamah.

Rivals’ Chad Simmons has the latest on Richardson’s recruitment following his decommitment from Oklahoma.
